Reliability and maintenance cost on a used 997 TT?
I pay $138 for oil changes at a local dealer in Minnesota: $59.95 in labor, $67.86 in parts and $4.94 in sales tax. Independent tuning shop charges just over $100 for the same thing and they wash the car by hand while they are at it. An oil change cannot cost $300 - it's a rip off, I am sorry.
The 997TT is a lot cheaper in maintenance than our ML63, so there you go.

I do not know what kind of oil you buy for 68 bucks, I think Turbo takes 8 liters, but I would never put any cheap oil in my car, and therefore it would not cost 8 CHF/liter.
I would not change oil at some shoddy repair shop either, because it is important here where you service your Porsche, so it would be either official Porsche Center or my tuner, and the hourly rates at these places are 170-220 CHF.
So 300 bucks for oil change is quite possible and not a rip-off but the reality where I am at. :-)
I do not even want to ask what the full insurance on a Turbo costs where you are at, probably 500 bucks or so? Here, yearly insurance is close to 5000. Then there is road tax at about 1 grand a year. :-)

Thanks for the info. This is the support I need as of my research goes.
$300 oil change sounds acceptable for a car that originally wroth $150K+ and I have no problem with that. I only worry about if the shops will charge $600 or more which doubles what you pay for a non-turbo 911. From my own experience in the past, some shops are tricky on this. Years ago when I took my M3 to do a winter/summer tire swap, I got quoted from first shop $280(on the phone I told them it was a M3). Then I phoned the 2nd shop and got quoted $145(told them I had a 3 series with 18" wheel). This is what I hate about it, just because you have bought/used a more pricey vehicle, you have to pay double or more for the same parts/job/work. If that's the case for a 911 turbo, no, I don't think that's the right car for me.
Other than that, whatever job/work need to be done in order to keep the car happy and running properly, I will be glad to participate.

It's not really expensive to run a turbo. It's all relative. Do make sure you get a CPO car. The only way for you to find out really is to get one. It will put a big smile on your face when you put your foot down.
8 qts of Mobil One 0W40 is $51.84 here in Texas. ($6.48/qt at Walmart) Filter is ~$20.00 from Suncoast. So, for around $80 (tax and shipping) I can change it myself. Autozone takes my old oil for FREE!!
Don't worry about servicing costs or depreciation. Work hard play harder!

I will worry about costs when they arise. The one thing that one cannot buy is time.
I totally agree with that. For me Turbo is the first luxury car I've ever had and I've been thinking about what ownership of it would entail financially. In the end I just went and bought it, it's an incredible machine. :-)

The turbo is not quite as quick as this one but it's ok.

Well, I live in one of the most expensive (if not THE most expensive) country in the world (Switzerland) and in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Back to Porsches. The oil change price I quoted is from a major Porsche dealer and they claim to use Mobil 1. It's understandable that every dealer has different operating costs and those costs affect the price they charge for products and services they sell. It's just very hard to justify that kind of a price differential in the age of free internet. Oil change is a commodity and can be easily shopped around. I will not buy it for a second that operating expenses at a dealer in "enter a US city" is 3x higher than an authorized dealer local to me. Average MN per capita income is something like $48k, so it's inline with the US and EU average.
I think the hourly labor rate at a local Porsche dealer is about $120. Car registration tax (tabs) is about $1200/year. Insurance is about $1500/year. Also, Minnesota is considered a high tax state, so these numbers may be lower in a different state.
So, there you go.
Glad to hear you got one! That was quick! Did you get the tuned turbo you were looking into?
The turbo is not quite as quick as this one but it's ok.

Yes, got the tuned one.
It is fully serviced, including clutch change, 2000km ago.
All the tuning bits I would do myself are already on (exhaust with 200cell cats, H&R springs, software, very nice wheels).
It had all options I wanted (shortshifter manual, adaptive seats, sunroof, sport chrono).
I know the previous owner and I know the tuner (Sportec) very well.
Would not say that it was quick, it took a few months to select and decide, I missed a great deal on a stock silver 2009 Turbo, but in the end I bought what caught my eye a few months ago, followed the gut feeling.
Car is nice inside and outside, really nice to drive (even just glide slowly), I drive always in sport mode but I am not hardcore enough to constantly drive with PASM on, so I play a lot with that button.

My GF also likes the car a lot, which is also positive.

Nice prices you got in MN! I wish we had such prices here...but we don't. Well, what can you do. :-)

You are very lucky my friend!! My dealer (Newport Beach, Ca) charges $300 for an oil change. The cost of living in Southern Cali
But like others have said, if you can't afford the maintenance, don't buy the car. But it's smart to save money whenever you can...
i think every porsche owner should know how to do their own oil changes.. basic service is a must on these cars and changing filters/bleeding brakes and changing pads and rotors just makes your knowledge of the car better.
thankfully i had another member instill this into me.. had he not been there i probably would not have every tackled any of these items.
if you dont want to get your hands too dirty leave the spark plugs, serpentine belt and fuel filter to a mechanic.. also tranny fluid in the manual cars can be a trick job if your working just on jack stands
i would honestly say tires are the most expensive regular maintenance item. from my experiences. i went through rears every 5 months.
an oil chance over here in sf will run you around $300.. or just buy your own oil and filter for around $100 total.
