GMG springs or other lowering springs

GMG is back ordered 6 to 8 weeks, I have my first DE in 4 weeks, new wheels within 3 weeks. I have the sway bars in the box ready to install with springs.

Any recommendations on other lowering springs?

They have been on back order for a while.... I ended up with TechArt.

Too funny, I just bought Techart. How do you like them?

dianic 05-08-2012 05:15 PM

How much are the techarts guys?
I am sold on H&R will be measuring Skands car tomorrow on clearance at my office ramp, and will also measure ground clearance to compare with some measurements I found here searching last night...

Anyone with experience from the techarts? How stiff is the question? I know softer than GMG and stiffer than H&R seems to be the verdict. I guess we shall see soon enough.

They feel like stock to me. :)

H&R are the perfect drop.

To the best of my knowledge, H&R, Techart, and GMG lowering springs all lower the car 1 inch/24mm.

Dianic is correct, unconfirmed rumor is that H&R is softest, Techart is next, and GMG is stiffest. Search this forum to see where this rumor comes from (I think it's decently reliable. Grin).

I am really amazed that no Porsche shop has put one of these springs into a spring rate testing press and got some numbers for us amateurs. Are these machines that rare (real question - I am not a pro)?

Interesting, how are Eibach springs doing as for as softness is concerned?

Well that explains why I haven't heard anything from my dealer yet...although it has been a couple of months already....

Are the Techarts made by H&R? If they are stiffer then presumably they aren't just a rebadge?

Winnilaker 05-09-2012 12:38 PM

I have no reference they are made by H&R, they look different and they cost nearly double what you can get H&Rs for. So My guess is they are not, just a guess. Maybe somebody from Sharkwerks can jump in?

Found this good link describing them

TechArts are made by Eibach along with GMG

Typically springs will be made by one or two companies and 5 or 6 will private label the exact same thing and not report spring rates at all calling them 'proprietary'. All I know is I am happy with over 30,000m on my GMG springs.

dianic 05-09-2012 02:49 PM

Eibach makes techart and GMG different spec of course, and they make their own brand as well.
H&R makes Champion, at slightly higher spring rate than theirs.
H&R's spring rate is lower than factory, but a progressive spring (harder as it compresses).
