997.2 Turbo // PDK vs. 6-Speed?
SubscribeFor feel and pleasure, the 6speed is the way to go. If you are concerned with speed and being the fastest, the PDK will win EVERY single time (in stock form).
When I drove the PDK in Vegas at the track, by looking at my videos, the PDK was going only 1mph slower than the Aventador at the end of the straight...the PDK is fast - plain and simple. In a PDK with some miles, you can see 130mph traps...that is nuts.

LOL Tip is unwanted. That is so funny. Maybe here everyone tracks their TT's and has the local PD allowing 0-60 till your hearts content. But in the real world there are plenty of people that want a car that they just step on the gas and it goes because 100% of their time in the car they will NEVER race a single car.
They just want to go drive. Seems this site is disproportionately in favor of the 6 speed when in reality the people buying a BMW want a 6sp, the people buying an AMG SL want an auto. Which one is most likely going to buy a porsche turbo?
Yup the guy that is leaving MB. Seems that most of the sales I see have the 6sp going for a couple grand less.... except here then you get a premium.

Also, there are no used manual 997.2T, all PDK.

I don't think I would ever have an automanual because 6spd is always a lot more rewarding and fun for me to drive. Originally Posted by TAILWAG

The reason why I ask about the 1/4 mile time is because I would want to have the astonishing straight-line performance as the PDK at the least. I'd also like to be able to know what hp kit I would have to go with to have my car in the 10's. I'm thinking the 600hp kit might do it, but the 650hp kit looks best since EVOMS had a cab run 10.9.

And a test on the same track with PDK - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsNChWXn_dE
Ahhhh, I've watched that video a few times back but never noticed that it was a 6spd. Thanks a lot! That's exactly what I was looking for. Originally Posted by war hawk

Wow, 11.2 @ 125.3
vs.
11.0 @ 125.4 (PDK). Looks like PDK just has a better launch of course. I'm surprised that the 6spd went that quick especially with a 125mph trap.
So basically the 997.2 is .6 seconds quicker than the 997.1. That is due to the extra 20hp/extra displacement, slightly lighter weight, and?
With all the improvements on the 997.2 Turbo, I think I would be better off. I don't think it would be that far behind in terms of the performance:value of the 997.1.
Even though the GT1 motor is bullet-proof in comparison, do you think the new motor (997.2) would have a problem handing 650hp? I don't think I'd go any higher.
The .2 motor is not that weak. If you ask me you shouldn't have any trouble at those power levels with the motor or the tranny if it's 6sp. With the PDK i'm not so sure because that's around the power levels where the clutches start to slip.

Another small advantage that the manual cars have over PDK is that the manual cars are 55 lbs lighter than the PDK cars.Originally Posted by MrNurse

Have you ever seen an acceleration plot for a double clutch car versus a no lift shift 6speed? I think you will be disappointed on a turbocharged car.Originally Posted by Pov TTRS

Disappointed that its not as quick as a double clutch car? Not at all, that is obvious and yes ive seen the acceleration plots. The point of my post is that with a wotbox, you can close down the gap to double clutch transmissions considerably, especially with a turbo car.
A stock bone manual car can change gear in about 0.3 secs if you are really fast, with the wotbox this can change considerably. People have reported to save up to 0.7sec over a 1/4 mile run.
Just putting it out there that the manual guys can save some time

Thanks for posting that, Pov. Good stuff.Originally Posted by Pov TTRS

FYI; 0.3 - 0.35 seconds is an average manual shift. 0.2 is really fast. I have data of manual shifts in the 0.10 - 0.15 second range without using anything but a lot of practice.

Damn that is fast. Looks like i better get practicing. But that is good news that it can be done much quicker than I thought.
Probably veering off topic now but these where my shifts at stage 1. Atleast Ive got some data to compare it to once Ive installed the wotbox and try it again.

These shifts in the video were in the .17 to .21 range with a stock length (and somewhat notchy) C6 Z06 shifter. With an SSK, you can drop another 0.05 seconds off of all of your shifts. Originally Posted by Pov TTRS

My best ever was a 0.10 - 0.12 in my 996TT with a SSK (2-shift run below). The second fastest I've measured was Tym Switzer in a 997TT with a 0.14.

I find that Im driving my TT more in downtown traffic vs my 6spd, the 09 while in my possession logged ~8K in 2yrs and I just passed 2K in my 1st month with the PDK. The 09 was tuned with lots of aftermarket upgrades but the PDK is just stupid fast and with a tune, it's game over...
