Jhbrennan above is absolutely correct-the fan inside the spoiler blows air into the engine bay. I was curious about this so I took a small, thin piece of paper, around the size of a 3X5 card, and held it up to the outside spoiler vents while the blower was on. Since it draws air from the outside and blows it inside, there is a suction force. The piece of paper got sucked through the vent and I retrieved it inside the fan housing. I always thought the fan blew the hot air air out through the vents but now I know it is the opposite

 

My TT sits out in down to -30C all day in the winter (outside) when I'm at work. It has never failed to start, so far. I make sure the auto choke drops and the wait a bit - usually 5-10 minutes until the water temp needle trembles (this may be conservative but the car is basically frozen solid). I then don't let the rpms go above 3K before I shift, almost lugging it at times, until the oil temp is good. Got to watch the steering for awhile too as the tires are also frozen solid with not much traction. I take good care of my battery during the winter often topping it up with a trickle charger.

I have almost 70K miles and all is good, so I guess it works for me.

Kafa... I would consider installing an engine block heater if I was you.. I believe you guys up there have chargers in the garages / parking lots. Yes??
