eurotom, your pccb's will be fine for a while. Just keep an eye on the leading edge (lower part of the pads) as they will wear faster than the top part of the pad. Change out at 50% pad thickness.

As far as wheels go, OZ's are great for the track, excellent rating and a lot of us use them. They are really the best bang for the buck. Other than OZ for the track you have forged high dollar BBS, HRE, Forgeline and unless you have money to throw around or just have to have $5000-7000 wheels then for the track there is no reason to spend that money. I've used CCW, Forgeline in the past and went back to OZ HLT cast.

Just a small sampling of that "slippery slope"! It can be addictive....

Heading to Infineon bright and early tomorrow morning (well actually, dark and early!)

Cheers!

Thanks for the input, I think I'll run my first session in group a as is and then make my upgrades for the next session (rotors and wheel/tires)

Wait

Wait and do a few track days first - at least. You're car is fine for now. If you want to beef the experience up, invest in a few private lessons (best track "mod"!) to enjoy what you already have. I've worked my way up from stock to almost everything (except new turbos). As previously state, change your oil, new (aftermarket) brake fluid, and be careful of that back end - a very different drive.
Enjoy!

Change the brake fluid! When the fluid heats and cools, condensation occurs. The brake fluid will absorb the resulting moisture.

Subsequently, when the brakes get hot on the track the condensation "boils off" leaving air in the brake lines. As the air won't compress like the brake fluid, your brakes will stop working.

I recommend racing grade brake fluid.

Imo, and in spite of being the owner of a highly modified 997.1 TT, the GT3 is a better track tool. Unlike the turbo, it needs no modifications to make it track worthy and, frankly, is easier to drive as the torque curve is much more linear. This isn't to say that the turbo is not a great deal of fun. With the proper mods, figure $10K to start, it's a blast on the "big" tracks; Road America, Miller, VIR, etc., where it's power can be put to good use. But it's stock weight, awd and suspension setup work against it.

If you plan on using the car as a DD or for long road trips, then consider the advantages the turbo brings and the disadvantages inherent in a GT3.

Good luck. You can't make a "wrong" decision. Best,

Another option is to keep the turbo and get a dedicated track car. You can get a spec miata for less than $15K, or spec boxster etc. This, of course will require trailer/tow vehicle etc. so not sure if that will work for you. I agree with steamboat though - the GT3 is the better track car. Depends on how much you're going to drive the car on the street.

A year ago i decided to sell my modded turbo and purchased a 996 track car that was built to compete in the koni challenge series.

The turbo is a great car but there is no comparison between it, or any street car for that matter, and a dedicated race car. Figure out what your goals are and go from there.
