997 Tiptronic review (w/Video)
I've been snooping around the forums for a bit now. And I just test drove my first TT997. It was a 2009 with a Tiptronic transmission. While I had really thought about the 6-speed, the TIP has me won. Plus I plan on using it as a daily driver at times when the weather is nice here in Saint Louis.
This is my own personal perspective as to why I am picking the TIP over the 6-Speed. And, I have not even given the 6-Speed a chance. There is a special feel about a turbo car with an automatic transmission. I have helped some of my racing buddies here in the states with some big horsepower turbo cars. And I drove a few of them.
I did some research about the TIP after I drove it. I was unaware that it had a torque converter. That was the winning factor for the TIP. The launch dialed in properly nets sub 3 second 0-60 times, obviously this is with a fair amount of upgrades. And with the upgraded TIP you get solid shifts from a hydraulic automatic transmission (to the best of my knowledge). The combination of the GT1 engine and a properly built TIP is one hell of a street car.
The name ES MOTOR came up when I was in my investigative search about the TIP. They have a 1400HP TIP car, and it’s a monster. This is the hardest and cleanest shifting TIP I have ever seen. In all of my searching about the TIP this video lays it out. ES MOTOR builds a beastly TIP.
This car is equipped with GT30 turbochargers. You can clearly hear the clean shifting.
Thanks to the forum and its members for creating an excellent information source for the 997.

P.S. Another added benefit to the TIP…the wife can drive me home if I have a few ****tails.
Here is the link to the one I drove. Cream with Red interior. The red was way too intense for me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2009-...t_18108wt_1165

Nice to hear you've made a solid decision about which transmission to pursue...that's a big milestone prior to purchasing.
I agree with you about that red interior too, not my style either.

I would imagine. That thing shifts extremely fast for having all of that power, a solid unit indeed.
Plus it has a margin of safety with the Auto. I'm sure my eight year old could drive it. Put it in D, go.
The red is too much for sure. I need mellow colors.

enjoy it now! If you have any videos of the car please PM them to me.

Can that be upgraded? And is this a problem? Do the TIP cars have traction problems with out an LSD?

Hello Kyle,
Its nice to hear that you go with TIP. You won't regret it.
We haven't been using any upgraded LSD on our cars but,
I will be able to offer LSD for TIP cars very soon
I think it will be VERY nice combination with a built TIP.

Emre
