Discussed before but not clear: Normal Boost values?
FWIW, I have a 2010 997.2 Turbo with Akrapovic exhaust, stock cats still, and EVOMS stage 2 tune from Sharkwerks. Enabling the boost gauge in the console shows me 0-14 psi on the meter. Mine is also not showing a 0-18 psi gauge, it stops at 14psi on the right side at stand still. Does it re-scale to 0-18 if you go over 14? or are your cars at 0-18 even at standstill? I have to admit, I am looking at this for the first time after reading this thread (I have had the car for 3 months only and have not had a chance to really drive it much).

I've got a 997.1 so not 100% sure it is the same as a 997.2 but my range read 0-18 regardless of sports mode
I am stunned that there is so much variability from car to car. I think some of these cars have had their ECU tweaked at some point (at dealership or otherwise) and the sports chrono function or at least the gauge has been modified inadvertently
I see 17 psi in sports mode all the time when pulling in 2nd through 6th gears. and now with the tune the overboost pulls 17+psi as long as I have the throttle pegged to the floor. Surprised to read so many posts with folks only seeing 10,12 or 15 psi max.

Ok, so that's pretty much the only way to know if I'm getting above 17 PSI.
I'll check it out sometime. Don't recall ever seeing an arrow.
Went on a quick drive.. not enough light traffic / police free areas near me to do any quality pulls unfortunately. But WOT on a rolling start from around 25mph as I pulled onto the freeway yielded a pegged 14psi on the 0-14 gauge and about 15psi (no overboost arrow) using the numeric gauge. Overboost did not kick in (well at least I did not see the arrow) but I don't think I mashed it fast enough for overboost to kick in (the manual said it has to be a quick acceleration).
I don't think I have a boost issue. My only question really is why the 0-14 psi gauge instead of the 0-18psi gauge that some forum members are seeing ... gonna call the dealer tomorrow. Again, 2010 997.2 sport chrono plus and PDK. Newly purchased, 9K miles, factory warranty + CPO until 2016 and it got a full working over by an authorized dealer as part of purchase just a few months ago.

Somewhere along the line your dealer or someone else had to do some ECU work on your car and did not flash it correctly.
Happened to me once after getting my car back after taking it to the dealer for the P0021 cam flaw (major work to fix). Went back and they corrected in a few minutes with the PIWIS tool.

Glad to know this but that means I now have to take the car back to the dealer

So would correcting the bar display from 0-14 to 0-17, means it would boost better as well

Right now in 3 & 4th, I barely get to 10
aa909,
When looking at the bar graph when accelerating, the boost slams over to the far right to 18PSI. Not sure what the digital gauge is reading for the same type acceleration.
When I get home I'm try the digital gauge and see what it reads.

All RIGHT!! I'm the OP and I am not nuts!! It seems there are some cars showing 0-14 and some 0-18!!!
I bet there is an ECU issue on the cars that show 0-14! I'll even go so far to say they are really pulling 14 without boost, but the ECU thinks (computes lol) that the scale is showing 0-18.
Now we are finally getting somewhere.
Mine is a 997.1 TT and it also shows 0-14 on the bar. However after reading this, it makes perfect sense as I did have an ECU issue and they ordered/re-worked my old one.

I bet that is it!
Then again, maybe its the other way around!

that sounds correct, under full over boost the bar will go all the way to the right signaling 17.4 psi (technically not "18") and your digital gauge will read 17 psi with an up arrow

Here's an even scarier thought! Perhaps the whole instrument cluster was swapped out with a car that didn't have Sport Chrono, with lower miles...gotta get to the bottom of this. When I go to the dealer where I bought it, I will mention the 0-14 vs the 0-18 issue and also ask how many hours has the motor been in operation.
I spoke with Alex at Sharkwerks via email (man, that guy responds very quickly =P).
He said the boost gauge discrepancy (0-14psi boost gauge in my particular case) is due to the flash I have (EVOMS) and perfectly normal and done on purpose. He said a lot of other flashes do this as well. I'm not going to attempt to describe the 'why' due to risk of not explaining it properly
Hopefully EVOMS or Sharkwerks pops in to explain.
