Safe to drive with a tire that had small screw

I picked up a screw 8mm ( 3/8 of an inch ) in length in the inner tread of the right rear tire ( Pirrelli). It was located towards the first groove. The tires have 9800 miles on them and the tread which had the screw in it has about 3 to 4mm of tread. There has been no loss of air. I have two questions: how much rubber is there under this tread ? Is it safe to drive on this tire, especially at high speeds of 80 to 120 mph? Thanks in advance for your help.

For clarification, you pulled the screw and there has been no air loss?

As an FYI, TIA (tire industry association) would recommend replacing a tire vs. patch with high performance/speed rating.

Normal passenger tires with a lower performance/speed rating it's typically no issue with a proper tire repair.

Gotcha, I'm sure you'll keep an eye on it.

As you may know, issues typically occur when critical parts of the tire are compromised. Many layers involved in the production process which determine performance capability. It's not usually something someone can just see and state the tire is still ok, which is why replacement is recommended on these types vs. repair.

I'm going to get a whole new set of tires. The rears are almost worn out and I've been wanting to switch to the Michelin super sports (non-n2's). Thanks for the info.
