Cruise control not working -HELP, long road trip soon!

Folks,
When stuck I can usually rely on the experience and generosity of the members to give good and reliable advice. My cruise control just stopped working (along with hood release, weird)! No CC activation light, nothing.

I'm getting ready for my annual road trip from Canada to SoCal (must leave in 2 weeks), with some side trips to New Mexico along the way (almost 120,000 kms and counting). I really use my cruise control a lot for the long straight sections - and for us 'ol seniors, our legs get to cramping when holding in the same position for extended periods. Plus it saves my bacon for those tricky sections where state troopers appear out of nowhere in the middle of nowhere (and I have an Escort - but they don't stop these sneaky troopers all the time).

My trusty and very reliable tuner and mechanics have been working on it but we are stuck. We have checked the clutch and brake switches, module, and fuses - all checked out with their code reader. Perhaps it could be the actual cruise control arm on the steering column? Any and all advice, especially from those who have had this problem or know someone with a CC problem, would be greatly appreciated. Time is also of essence so ---- HELP please!

I would assume they have checked all the fuses ? It can also be the Cruise Control Stalk that goes out, they will wear out over time and fail.

Thanks

Thanks!
Yes, fuses ok. CC stalk is a good point - I didn't know they wear out. Will try and figure out how you check this - code reader is not help here.
Cheers,
K
