997 Turbo S or 991 C4S

I had a 2003 996 TT with X-50 package which I traded for 2006 BMW M5, decision that I regretted once the novelty wore off in few months. I am now ready to get back to Porsche 911 but in the mean time, spent way too much money flipping cars and taking huge depreciation hits on new cars. Now I am ready to just stick to a car for many years ( I think :) ).

I have a build slot coming up for a new C4S at about 8K off MSRP, configured to about $136K) and need to finalize the order soon. I just came across an opportunity to pick up a 2011 CPO Turbo S with 2,700 miles at about $50K discount to original MSRP of $176K.

I've driven both and would be happy with either one but pros and cons to each car. A big factor is that Turbo S has already taken a big depreciation and still practically a new car. I would think in 5 years Turbo S will be worth significantly more than C4S while my cost would be about the same.

I know it's my personal decision but wanted some input from those with time spent behind the wheels of 997 Turbo S. I tend to keep my car stock and use it as a daily driver.

Thanks.

Wow two great choices. Depends whether you are OCD or not. A used car is still a used car and there's going to be little things that may annoy you with just about any used car. So you need to ask yourself if those compromises are worth the difference between a really fast car and a brutally fast car.

Golfnut,

I have had the opportunity to drive both extensively on and off the track. Although the 991 C4S is a great car in its own right I felt very underwhelmed in it compared to my 997 TTS. I'll admit I did like the 991 interior and with PDCC it drove closer to my Damptronic suspension yet softer however it seriously lacked the torque I had become addicted to.
If power and torque are not your thing it may be worth more consideration however for me having lived with what the 997 TTS offers over the normally aspirated 991 I could never consider it an alternative.

At 2700 miles ( assuming the car is pristine no paint work etc) and a CPO giving you warranty until 2017, plus the pure performance of the TTS and with 50K off from what it sold for new it would be an easy pick for me....the '11 TTS!

The 991 is no comparison to a turbo. Drive them both, you'll see. I think many people also buy into the salesman's pitch though, "the car is $50k off MSRP". It isn't $50k off MSRP, it is a 3 year old car. I think after 3 years you really hit the sweet spot in terms of warranty and depreciation. It is a MUCH better VALUE than a new 991. But it is a used car. If you look at any used car there will be much greater value and much less loss from depreciation. A little more than 30% after 3 years, very good value retention, especially if you consider that car did not sell for MSRP when new. But those TT S cars are really expensive at $125plus. The value is a non S 2010, which is now clipping under $100k. The extra power doesn't really justify the added cost, in my view. Good luck hunting though.

TTS for sure... Power is intoxicating.

Thanks for all your posts. It was unanimous for TTS as I expected. It is a better deal than new C4S with more power, although I do like the 991 interior better.

I placed a deposit for the 2011 Turbo S, GT Silver, Natural Brown with extended Makassar package. The dealer is sending over the paper work by FedEx tomorrow.

The car has only 2700 miles in pristine condition, not even wear marks on the side bolsters of the adaptive seats. Previous owner traded it in for a new 991 Turbo S, GT Silver with two tone Black/Carrera Red. I bet that looks awesome. I told the salesman to tell him to call me in 2-3 years when he gets tired of his 991 TTS but I am sure the dealer wants to be in the middle of that transaction.

I should have it next week. Can't wait
