997tt maintenance schedule? Things to watch out for?

Hey everyone,

Newbie here entertaining getting a 997tt. Couple of questions:

1) What is a typical maintenance schedule of a 997tt? Oil change frequency? I assume the 997tt uses synthetic oil? Aside from oil change, what else is on the schedule? Cost of these maintenance items?

2) Anything one should look out for in terms of problematic areas? RMS and IMS should not be an issue with 997tt right? What about 2nd gear popout, etc. ? Thanks.

3) Any regrets getting a 997tt? To be honest, I've always wanted a 911, and the 997 seems to be my favorite model. I've driven a 991 C4s, and it seems too toned down and abit isolated for my taste. Assuming I get a 911 now or in the future, no other car make out there interests me.

4) Is the 997 a good DD? I make Costco runs once every 2 weeks or so. Would a package of Kirkland toilet paper and long rectangular box of paper towels fit?

5) My current Acura TL with SH-AWD and P/S 3s does great in the rain, winter, and snow up in the mountains. How does a 997 with P/S 3s fare in the rain/snow/ice/wintry mountains? I assume the 997's AWD system is suitable for inclement weather?

Thanks!

Hey man - welcome. First - and no joking around, read this stuff - start here:

http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...anceintervals/

Then here:

http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf...Turbo_PCNA.pdf

This will give you a good taste. And cost - forget it - you are buying a 911 Turbo - find a good independent mech and you will be better off - but its expensive once stuff starts to go wrong (clutch and stuff like that).

Winter drive = winter tires. Get some rims and season appropriate tires. Although the AWD system is outstanding, PS3 are NOT for winter driving (snow/low temps)...ever - you will need the M/S (mud/snow) tires to make it effective for what you are referring to.

I'm driving my 997.1 daily. Yes - a 12 pack of paper towels will fit in. A bag full of soccer ***** with coaches bag will fit in. Its fine for 90% of your journeys. If you need you can get the roof rack system and a carrier - its butt ugly, but does the job.

Hope that helps a little.

no problems with IMS/RMS.

Notorious things with a 997TT is the clutch reservoir (wining sound from engine at slower speeds) and the spoiler hydraulics leaking leading to the rear spoiler malfunction.

Your Costco TP and paper towels will fit, but not both in the trunk, you will have to carry a package behind the seats.

Thanks for the info so far. The maintenance schedule and manual is helpful. How much would you guys budget for minor maintenance? Major maintenance? What is included in said maintenances?

Sorry for the typo, I meant to type A/S 3s as my existing tires. Not P/S 3s.
