My 997.1 Turbo (26K miles) boost will not go over 9 PSI... engine sounds normal, no CEL has been set. Only mod i have are vividracing straight pipes which had been installed last summer and never had any issues, stock tune. I will be taking the car to the porsche dealer on Monday, but would like to know what could be wrong. I did have my local garage Porsche tech look at this yesterday but he could not see anything obvious with it like loose hoses etc. He did not have a Porsche diagnosis tool to dig deeper. If someone has experienced a similar issue feedback would be appreciated... Thanks!

 

Could be a few things, hose popped off or it could be a sticky VTG actuator. Maybe a clogged cat, but more than likely one of the others.

The Porsche dealer should be able to tell you more for sure with the PIWIS.

Yeah ....on the way to the dealer the car was back to normal going into over boost ...seems to work fine at first key up .... The dealer was able to replicate the issue and said it was faulty boost actuator connecting rods.... Dealer replaced the rods and it did not help ... They reflash PCM with new update and seems to work fine now.... They will keep it for a day to see if it acts up again

 

If your car is "normal" after restarting, that is indicative there is some underlying problem that the ECU detects so it puts the car into "limp mode" in order to protect it. It could be one, or a combination, of many things; something temperature related, air/fuel ratio out of line, misfires, failing sensor, etc. These can be tricky to diagnose and are made even more difficult when a car is modded. Just thinking out loud if by straight pipes you mean no catalytic converters, it is possible that your turbos are overspooling due to decreased back pressure. In addition to this potentially leading to a catastrophic turbo failure, they could be generating excess heat causing the limp condition. I have no idea how Vivid engineers their pipes or if they use an outside exhaust company to design and manufacture and/or if this is a known issue to them.

I just had my cats removed and installed test pipes and the ECU had to be reprogrammed to accommodate that change. While this may have nothing to do with your situation, if the dealer cannot get to the root cause utilizing his Piwis diagnostic tool, you may need to consider this possibility. Best,

Seriously, if the dealer can't figure it out consider at least asking the question of whether straight pipes can be run without issue without modifying the tune and whether that answer depends on specific operating parameters being met or not being exceeded. Perhaps start another thread - there must be other people on the forum running straight pipes. Good luck,

 

Yeah checked on the straight pipes ... No issues with that .... Got code C1612 code: boost pressure electric actuator b2 stiff Implausible signal .... Started another thread to see if someone can help
