997.1 turbo dripping coolant...
My water pump leaked without any whine Thought at first the reservior holding antifreeze, which on porsches crack easily. However turned out to be water pump at only 65000 miles. Tech says earlier at 50000 when a rubber hose blew, the water pump probably overheated and shorten its life span. Had to have engine drop to fix that hose, so replaced all hoses but was not told about plastic hose-connectors.
After 50000, seems like with these turbos, all hoses and plastic connectors come apart and often require costly engine pull. Smart thinking porsche. My M3s stayed together much longer than this turbo, and if something broke, didn't require a $1800 engine-drop cost to repair it. The new turbo-M4 is looking better and better each day as I watch this 997.1 disintegrate into a high-cost pain in the butt as well as wallet.

I hear yah.
I was looking at this Evans waterless coolant mentioned in this thread in an earlier post and I have also heard of it before but never took it seriously till now. It could be the prevention we need for our cars.
It runs at much lower pressure if any.
It doesn't boil over.
It doesn't corrode and you only fill the car once as it lasts a lifetime.
Seems great and I am considering the switch.
If its the same problem i had then it will be one of the plastic coolant pipes below the intake manifolds has split.

The solution for me is selling my turbo. Hell everything has been replaced and no telling what's next. These cars are fine for the track, but to get to simply repairs like a coolant hose or coolant reservoir, the engine has to be $dropped and or back bumper has to be $removed. Maybe on the track, mechanics anticipate such things and can better deal with them. Never have seen a car disintegrate after 50000 miles as quick as this street-driven only turbo. Bought it new. Still wonder, how in the world, Porsche has kept up such a grossly exaggerated reputation for their cars. And the dealers, good ones that don't try to rip of customers, are few and far between. My thoughts of a 2015 turbo have vanished. I guess if you are lucky enough to live near an honest Porsche dealership, maybe the car is worth it.

You guys better have your fire suits handy!! The cheerleaders will be on here strong telling you that NHTSA has found that these are isolated incidents and thus NO PROBLEM...SMFH!! I bought mine with 86k miles and I have almost rebuilt the entire fricken car!! People can claim what they want, but I have never owned an American car, or for that matter ANY car/truck that seems to DETERIORATE like this...especially for as expensive as it is! I will keep fighting the battle simply because I enjoy driving her, but this thing is way more expense and upkeep than a boat!
I would not own this car if I couldn't work on it myself! Thinking about adding a lift and working on Pcars on the side at my shop!

I agree 100%. Porsche built these cars for 50K miles or 4 years and past that, down the tubes they go. I guess they are more track cars, not DDs. With engine in back everything is in close quarters and as a consequence hoses, plastic etc just heat up and crap out faster.
The strange thing is is when you go to sell car, having all gross disintegration-items fixed makes no difference on price you get.....all buyers care about is mileage period.
My M3s began slow disintegration too after 50K warranty but not near the degree of this turbo and not near as costly to fix.
It has always bothered me that these expensive cars (>130K new)depreciate in KBB or Black Book value the same % as say a $30K mustang or Honda. I always thought pay more gives better quality. Ain't so. Mustangs, Hondas, etc., do extremely well after 50K miles. So perhaps KBB has it wrong, perhaps depreciation % on higher-priced cars should be much more (not less) than lower-priced vehicles to let buyers know up front what little these turbos, etc are really worth if kept too long.
