Dealer or Specialty Shop?
Dealer or Specialty Shop?
I had a check engine light come on today, the warning is not flashing but does say Visit Workshop. I did a few searches on here and it looks like that is an emissions error/code. I do have a Techart Exhaust with 200 Cell Cats on the car. Tried the gas cap trick and the light still comes on every start. I have about 90miles left on this tank of gas so I was going to try some cleaner with the fill up and see if that helps. I don’t have a durametric or any similar reader to check the error.
Does Durametric or similar tell you exactly where the problem is? Example: faulty O2 Sensor? If not would it be best to take the car in for service at a dealer of specialty shop. I'm north of los angeles about 60miles. Closest Porsche dealer is about 45miles. There are several specialty shops in the greater los angeles area I could try… Auto Talent or BBI, but I'm not sure this is within their normal scope of business… its more service related. Any thoughts or direction would be great. I appreciate the feedback I get from this forum.

buy one of those cheap OBD readers, local auto parts (or amazon preferably) and narrow it down as well. Guessing you have a post cat efficiency code.
You can have your tuner (if flashed) mod the post cat sensor. I had mine turned off and I still was A ok with CA smog test last year.

Going to the dealer they may just blame the issue on your aftermarket exhaust, whether it truly is causing the issue. So that's why you should probably go to an independent shop that works on modified cars.
Yes, BBi will take great care of you. They are fantastic and much, much, much better than a Porsche dealer. Just don't expect it to be cheap because they are top of the line builders and also do routine diagnostics.

I had a squealing noise coming from the rear, dealer (head tech) blamed my aftermarket exhaust. car sat for 4 weeks at dealer, finally diagnosed failed water pump bearing after I told them to pull the exhaust, if noise goes away I will pay labor. McKenna.....dealer is dead to me. it happens.
