after how many miles is spark plug and coil pack new to be changed??
 

I have about 45k miles on my 08 turbo.... I bought it with about 36k miles a year ago... I did oil change, i dont drive her as much but wanted to know when i should do these maintainance changes.....

Spark plugs are recommended for replacement at the 24,000 mile interval mark. As for the coils, there isn't a set time frame, most tend to change them when they do the spark plugs. We offer a few different coil and plug kits when decide to change them, for more information Click Here.

spark plugs are 12000 miles for a gt2, which runs more boost.
a tuned 997 should follow the gt2 service schedule.

I made this to help with checking service schedule. Might be of value to you and can be modified to suit your driving habits/car.

I remember reading that 30- 40 k were the limits in stock cars...if you have higher boost 20 k should be more then enough....

The factory interval is also after 4 years, so your car is about 2 years overdue according to the factory. I really don't get the time interval for the change personally.

What are signs of bad plugs/coils? My car has approx. 26.5k on it, stock with the exception of a catless exhaust. Just wondering what are symptons that you are due for a change? I will change both sparks and coils when I tune the vehicle.

You could wait until you receive a misfire warning code. I'm running a range colder plug and the first set lasted 20,000 miles.

What code is that? Running too rich on either bank?

the tech told me the error codes were general misfire and misfire cyl 4. I don't know the code #.

How do you tell if your car is misfiring? I have a fvd tune and now sometimes the car will hesitate on startup or I will see a quick blip where my rpm will rise and fall without pressing the gas. I have about 37000km tuned around 32000.

I received the engine warning light on the dash for a couple of seconds. It lit at redline/wide open throttle but went off as soon as the revs dropped. The tech told me it was a misfire when he connected his laptop to the car.
I also had felt a reduction in throttle response prior to plug change. Now throttle response is back to normal.

When the dealer does this plug/coil work....do they drop the motor? Heard this job runs about $1600. True?

No need to drop the engine. Coil Packs were $78ea, so about $480 total. I was charged $760 labor plus plugs and packs

The labor you indicate is about right (a little high, but about right). Depends on the hourly rate. It is quoted at about 8-10 hour job X labor rate. In my case the quote is at 138/hr so about ~$1100 - 1400.

I ended up doing it myself. It helps greatly to LOWER the motor, but it does not have to be removed (if that is what you meant by "drop the motor")?

I wrote up a DIY with photos and posted here and on Rennlist. Not terribly easy, but doable if you have the time and stamina :)
