Those of you with automatics, do you love it or regret it?
Oh and notice who here bashing the tip has actually driven a 997.1 in their original post. Of course they will magically have driven one and felt detached... really? I mean REALLY Im sorry but I have no time to feel detached in a car this fast that is shifting as fast as is shifts IN NORMAL mode. Its like press boom gear shift, next boom shift. The PDK is even faster but the tip is pretty fast.
I need to find the test drive but even the Factory drivers said there is no need for a manual with the TIP... then they made the PDK.
I will say that after driving my car. I drove a manual M3 and it seemed so slow and old. I tried to shift fast but it seemed odd. I kept wanting both hands on the wheel at turn in.
Granted when i got the tip it seemed to take a bit to shift but then my wife says do you REALLY think you can outshift this car? I hurt her neck when she was looking out the window on a 0-100 launch.
Oh but these guys posting their 6sp 60-130 times and modifying their cars dont care about straight line speed I forgot.

speaking of anyone know why porsche dumped the DFI after just 2 years and refused to put them in any of the cup cars? Seems odd that they needed a new DFI so soon

Nothing wrong with the tip. Some people prefer vanilla. Some people like chocolate. The tip (and PDK) will be faster than a 6mt since you can hold the boost but it's not always about which car is fastest. Sometimes it's about the experience of driving the car and some people just prefer the engagement of a manual transmission.
The op did ask those of us with tips to comment and the first 8 were from guys that never drove one hanging on to the purist argument.
I would have regretted a manual though.
Im only gonna respond to questions from the op. Too many uninformed opinions are bound to appear.
Remember do any of you tip owners regret buying one. No

Porsche has been improving its fuel delivery system for decades; carbs, MFI, CIS, L-Jetronic, DFI...FYI, the new 991 also has a DFI engine.

It's good to see that you like the tip, Squat. You're not alone in your assessment.
From what I've read it's an evolutionary improvement and still considered a direct fuel injection, hence the name, DFI. Regardless, as to the trans choice, I have own numerous Porsches over the years, all 3 pedal cars until I got my 997.2TTS w/PDK and I'm now a convert. I do still have a 1988 911 cab and Jeep Wrangler with 3 pedals though.

I love the PDK. It's a must for driving fast and driving as a DD. If this was my weekend toy maybe I'd prefer the manual.
But if you want a manual, get a GT3 not a turbo. The turbo is for going blistering fast, and to do that you need the PDK. Turbo with a manual is neutered.

I'm going to put my flame suit on and start some Xmas wars.....I've driven tip-turbo...gt3...997.2 pdk and my 6speed 997.1..... People bash tip-tranny because it sucks..for me it's not a very good fun shifting tranny...to say that a 2011 cayenne s that's a truck shifts better and faster and is more fun then a sports car shows me how behind its time that tranny is....now by all means if your a daily driver type person yes by a tip.. Car but the end story is that my manual is just funner to drive and I can drive it how I want it....I take pride in my manual driving and consider myself a good shifter..even tho I might not be a great track driver...pdk tranny now is way improved..much more direct and if I was old with knee replacment would be a tranny I would think about...at the end it really comes down to what everyone wants...for me the manual is me driving my control my launch and its me learning the art of shifting...never gets boring...auto trannys that I've drivin get boring within 30 min of driving ESP that tip..tranny....
Ideally, both?
I prefer my turbo to have the PDK. However... I don't think I will buy a PDK GT3. Since I doubt we'll see the 991 GT3 RS come in three pedal, I'll likely end up picking up a 997.2 GT3 RS. There's something about rowing gears in a high revving N/A car... I just prefer it I guess.
If I had to choose one, and only one, I'd still keep my 997.2 PDK Turbo S over the other options. I'm sure I'll trade up in 4-5 years to the 991.2 Turbo S once it's gone through at least two years of depreciation.

Wow, this thread got sideways real quick, tomato, tomato.? I still like tomatoes.
My advice is, test drive both, then figure out what drives you back to that car. You may find that this car is amazing either way and may not have anything to do with the transmission.

He asked if people regretted getting a tip and you bashed people that got one, or what I was accused of bashing
. Others made comments like its not a sports car unless it has a 6spd. (porsche disagrees with you as well as all the other sports car builders, unless you like NASCAR) Other came here saying its a lousy shifting car, when my wife blew a 6spd TT away last week and she wasnt even in sport mode. And a 11 sec car 0-100 in 7.7 sec is BORING hahahaha I mean you lost all credibility with that comment or you owe the forum Pit Passes for your next F1 race
Ok you like a manual they can be modded to high HP numbers, but the downside is you need a good clutch or a clutch fund. Other than that you are still in an awesome car which ever you choose. I really dont think either car is less of a Porsche because of how it shifts.
I mean its becoming the FIAT board where kiddies are gloating about their stitching and someone is bashing because they didnt get the old world version. I mean come on.
