Keyless Ignition Question
Hi, this is my 1st post on your forum. I have been a Mercedes-Benz AMG guy for the last 10 years. I have owned an E55, CL55, SL600, S65, and CL65 all with the keyless go option. I am so use to this convenience that it is hard to go backwards and not have it. For those unfamiliar with keyless go, it allows you to unlock the doors and start the car while keeping the key fob somewhere on you but not having to actively take it out.
I am in the process of doing a deal on my 1st Porsche...a 2012 911 Carrera Turbo S. I am beyond excited about this car but it does not have the keyless go option. I researched a few aftermarket companies that make this feature but when I contacted them I was told that the 2010 - present Carreras do not have a bypass module made to support this feature. The 2007 - 2009s do have a bypass module made? Does anyone know a company or a product that will help make this option possible!

I had remote start installed on my 996TT - worked great when parked under the sun.
Was going to get the same module installed on the 997TT - and a Bluetooth door module added ... but for some reason, the same installer had a problem with the ignition system of the 997's ...

I was in a similar situation as you. I can't say that I found a solution, other than I got used to having to use the key on my 2011 turbo. It obviously isn't as convenient as the key-less I have on my Cayenne turbo, but needless to say I have gotten used to having to use my key with the 911 and not with the Cayenne. Didn't take too long either.
Don't let this be a deal breaker for you as they are such great cars it's easy to look past this inconvenience (in really is hard to believe that a newer 150k+ car doesn't have this standard)

Agreed! I do not know why Porsche would not make "Keyless Go" standard as it is such a convenient option. Mercedes gives you the option to still use the key if that is your preference so it should be standard and whoever whats to go keyless can and whoever prefers to use a key (not sure why thought?) can use it!
I may have a solution but I will hold off until I confirm or deny some of the details. Anyone else with a solution please chime in!
By the way, deal is done and shipping the car to me next week! I am like a little kid inside waiting!!!!!

Agreed! Not only do you have to use a key it's in a weird place compared to most cars. Porsche originally put the key on the left side so in racing it's just that much quicker to start the car and go. But now, it's quicker to start the car with the push button. Too bad Porsche hasn't kept up with the times. Porsche's keyless start still requires turning a key. It's not just pushing the button.
For a daily driver I looked into Porsche but didn't have a Heads Up Display (HUD). BMW, Audi, etc had this feature. I ended getting an M3 instead of a Panamera or Cayenne.

Porsche has always been a little bit behind with creature comforts. The 997 doesn't offer automatic headlights either. Heck, this is a company that didn't offer cup holders in their flagship car until 2002.
The 991 is really the first 911 that has all the features that you would expect in a premium sports car, but many people complain that it has gone soft or turned into a luxury GT.
Don't get me wrong, I like the keyless ignition feature in my Audi, but it's not a deal breaker if I don't get this in a 911.
