proTUNING Freaks - COBB proTUNE / custom tuning - What is it?
First off we'd like to thank the 6speed community for having us on here for the past year and for providing a healthy enthusiast environment with lots of great discussion topics past and present. In that time we have gotten a chance to work with and meet a number of great customers and vendors in this community and offer our advice and help with custom tuning and parts. What we've realized is that we haven't really posted about what our custom tuning, or more formally referred to as a proTUNE, really is or what it offers when it came to tuning.
proTUNE in a nutshell is a custom tuning service provided by us to anyone looking to custom tune their car using the Cobb Accessport platform. When a customer comes to us to tailor their tuning we begin by discussing the modifications on the car, octane used, how the car is used (e.g. mostly street duty, mainly road course, high speed runs and roll on racing, etc). We review what the intentions are by reviewing the modification list and advise on building the tune accordingly.
Off the shelf tunes/maps are great starting points for many cars and they fill the gap that the factory left in place really nicely as we all know and have come to appreciate. Being that they are off the shelf maps they are, much like factory programming, pulled back relatively speaking for the sake of varying conditions/octane to suit most cars out there without major issues. This is where our custom tuning service comes in...
We start by gathering logs of your off the shelf tuning and start massaging the tune to what works well for you, your octane, your motor/transmission, modifications, ambients and goals. A lot of times we can spot/diagnose issues through log review that relate to for instance fueling (e.g. fuel pressure regulator line off, etc) or boost and/or MAF leaks, codes thrown and/or drivability that may relate to faulty MAFs or O2 sensors. We work through the issues at hand first and then move onto extracting the most power out of the car building up to a consistently strong and safe tune for a given modification/octane stack.
Once the tune/map is completed the tuner you worked with is yours for a lifetime to bother with questions and map tweaks
Most shops by far simply don't have the capacity or the scale to address things such as this one unless their time is compensated for, again. In our case and being that we come from a long enthusiast background we strongly believe in supporting our customers for as long as they run our tune. We do that through log reviews, advice and any map updates free of subsequent costs as long as no major changes are being done to the hardware on the car (e.g. going with a built motor/much larger/different turbos).
Let us know if any questions at all and we'd be happy to discuss.
Regards,

Do tell where you got it from...I'd like to try a couple of runs on the sauce.
Got it at Niagara, US side. I go there every once in a while so trying a fun E85 tune was a no brainer. Dzenno sent me three revisions of the protune already and the car is PULLING like nuts!! LOL Its like I put on upgraded turbos, its a huge difference honestly really happy with it. I wish we had it at the pumps here. Whoever is on the edge about E85 I say go for it!

There's apparently a place in Guelph that sells it, and that's a little closer than Niagara. A gas station near Port Perry has some racegas, not sure the cost though. I'm going to try some in the near future.
Thanks guys, really appreciate it!
Jazz, glad you're happy with the tune! The car is definitely running strong given the logs provided. E85 is indeed an amazing fuel, in some ways much better than any race gas. The only issue is its needy and imposes higher demands on the fuel system so injectors and pumps become a prerequisite depending on your power goals/hardware. Fuel mileage drops but that's not a big deal for most of us I guess
With OEM VTGs a set of ID1000s is bang on for what they can support, ID1300s if you'll run E85 with 65s or 68s. Injector dynamics just released ID1700s which fill the gap between 1300s and 2000s nicely as well.

So my car was sent to GMG back in 2009. They did boost hoses, headers, cats and exhaust. It came with a handheld tuner but they said they got rid of all their records two years ago when they went to a new computer system!
Car had 10,000 miles when it was sent and it has 13,000 now. I am thinking times have changed and may need an update. They have been pretty much useless. I called GIAC and they directed be back to GMG.......so I am going in circles and thinking about a total update at this point since I can not get any love from either. What are your thoughts?

@Marpir821, really sorry to hear
Both GIAC and GMG are great companies and its unfortunate that you had a bad experience. I can definitely help you out on the tuning and any questions you may have at all. Cobb Accessport is something that doesn't require travelling to a dealer shop to install/uninstall, we can review your tune at any time via datalogs after getting tuned, provide any tweaks necessary and lifetime support.
You can email me directly at dzenno@protuningfreaks.com and I'd be more than happy to help.
