New 2015 Cayenne Loaner Car

It's a diesel and I gotta say I'm pretty impressed.

The last diesel I drove was a 1980 Caddy Seville and I only drove it b/c my Dad purchased it for my Mom and it was a DOG that everyone in my family disliked. Every start was a wait for the glow plus light to extinguish, in the winter it could take several minutes, and every acceleration was filled with a plume of black smoke accompanied by the clacking of the engine. I could run faster than that car.

This is totally new breed of Diesel. I was totally not looking forward to driving this all day once I saw Diesel plastered on the side, but it is quiet, clean running and pretty peppy once you get off the line. Wonder what the gas mileage is on these ion normal driving city/hwy in the real world.

Anyway, jus thought I post it up as I was surprised.

Our '14 Diesel Cayenne gets around 22-24 City and 30-34 Highway, depending on how you are driving it.

pretzel is infamous around these parts
if you put your foot in it they get off the line very quickly. Not Tesla quick but impressive. My wife was in the market for a Cayenne and the only thing that stopped us getting the diesel was that the engine just does its business with not a whimper.....does not sound like a Porsche. She opted for the gas model instead.

I think the service loaner fleet here has just put into service one of the new hybrids, so I am hoping for this to try out next time around.

The diesel beats the hybrid on the economy side.

On an interesting note is was 100 degrees and humid in NY yesterday. I happen to be out with my son at the Yankee game. on the way home we hit the Max AC button. It totally changed the personality of the car. The transition from a rolling start to acceleration past a grandma style start is very jumpy.

Not sure if this is a turbo diesel or not but it feels like a turbo just kicks in and its not as smooth.

Reminds me of the way my 1988 M3 felt when it turned the AC on, totally robbed the car of the low end smoothness.
