M.Y. A great and very touching story.
A couple of thoughts...When a Porsche is serviced, I believe anywhere in the world, if a P.I.W.I.S. was used by the dealer's service department, that service record is automatically logged by Porsche, at least in the country where the service was performed. If I am wrong on this, someone please let me know. If I'm right, and as your intent here is clearly honorable, then I think you might get a helping hand from,
say, PCNA. If you made it clear to them that you would like only to make your contact
info available to the current owner, you may be happily surprised.
If I'm right about the PIWIS logging deal, then even if the car is in Germany, its presence may be detectable.
Again, great story. Your Dad would be proud.
thank you for the insight! I feel like this could really be put to use for me, his birthday is actually today so that gives me even more of a reason to find it soon
This is a great insight. If you find the right person at PCNA he will understand the potential of this story for the prestige of the brand and they will help you. They might even produce a commercial based on your story.
That would be fantastic. I hope I can find the right person to speak with and maybe they could share my story to inspire others.
After a couple more weeks of searching, not much has came up. Apparently in 2009 the last time it was "recorded" at an American Dealership was Ray Catena Porsche in New Jersey. I was told to call them tomorrow and tell the service director my story and see if he would be willing to give me the name of the person that owned it at that time so I could contact him and try to pick up the trail that way. I feel this way may work well if I can get his information or if I could get them to relay mine to him. I will keep you all updated as more news come.
A couple of yrs ago I tried tracking down my old 997tt. Results were mixed.
I traced it by carfax to Florida, I contacted the Florida DMV who eventually gave me the owners name address. Once I contacted him, that's where the good news ended.....
Try contacting the Delaware DMV to put you in contact with the owner.
Good luck

And thank you for all the support I am receiving.
If all else fails, hire a private investigator or someone who does skip traces - I'm sure they could get the name for you. With all the privacy concerns now, I imagine PCNA and dealers will be very reluctant to release that info to you. Good luck.

But do you think they will still give me the info even though it was my fathers car, and not mine? The DMV that is.
^true
If you contact ray catena, ask them to contact the owner for you, that way they won't be divulging pvt info themselves, leave it up to the owner to call you, or not.
Also google the vin.

I have contacted the Porsche dealership in New Jersey, and unfortunately not even the GM would give me any information because I am not the prior owner of the car, so that's the bad news. The good news would be that because my mother was issued my fathers death certificate when he passed and she was married to him during ownership they should be allowed to give her the information. We are going to try that and then the DMV later this week. I should have another update for you all soon. Thank you to everyone that has been keeping up with this.

Good luck to you and I hope it works out. Looking forward to an update.
After not much turning up I decided to backtrack some, I still know the man that sold my fathers car for him. So I went to him and asked about it and he told me that he would look into it. In 2008 he sold the car to a man in California who is a dealer. He then sold it to an "enthusiast" that lives in New York. Upon calling his friend in California about it, he was informed that actually the man he sold it to called him 2-3 years ago and still owned the car at that point. He is finding the mans number to give to me so I can reach out to him. Hopefully he still owns it now if he still had it 2-3 years ago. And if not, I hope he can put me into contact with the person he sold it to. Hopefully the next time I have an update I will be talking to the owner/prior owner. If he is and enthusiast like I am told then Hopefully he still has it and would be willing to part with it after hearing my story and the extent I am going to find it. Thank you all for reading!
Also here are some pictures of it, if maybe some of you in the north east United States have seen it. I know the interior with the steering wheel he chose wasn't an option that many people got so it helps it stand out some, also the GT2 wing on the back
GT2 wing put on close to when it was sold (was sold with same wing)
