997.2 Turbo S ECU Flash and Tech

The 997.2 Turbo S is one of the most incredible cars I have ever driven by Porsche. Available only in the PDK, the shifting speed and driveability of this car is insane. The Turbo S comes stock from Porsche with 530bhp. There are 2 things you can do to this car and call it quits on power mods if you wanted to. First is an exhaust system. The factory exhaust has 400 cell catalytic converters which make it very restrictive. Doing a high flow cat or catless exhaust and new muffler will gain you 30-40 horsepower right away. Unlike the 997.1 Turbo, the 997.2 Turbo exhaust is 2 pieces with the cats and muffler seperated. This opens up many choices from the likes of Fabspeed, Akrapovic, Agency Power, Cargraphic, and more. With the exhaust done, the turbos will spool faster and you will have much more power in the mid and top end range. But where the performance really kicks in is with the ECU flash. The 997.2 Turbo S Siemens SDI3 ECU can be tweaked to give your Porsche 80 horsepower over stock. Combined with an exhaust, this would take your 530bhp car to nearly 650bhp! Tweaks to the cars boost, fuel, timing maps are done. Changes to the throttle mapping improve the car to seem like sport is always active. For those running catless or high flow cat pipes, the ECU flash can also deactivate the secondary O2 sensor so you do not trip any faults.

When you own a 997 Turbo or Turbo S, there are two things to remember regarding the ECU flash. If you need to go to emissions, you will always want to flash your car back to stock. The ECU flash may change the vehicles ready status and this will instantly trigger a fail to pass. However if you flash your car back to stock and have an aftermarket exhaust with catless or high flow cat pipes, this may also trigger a CEL. So make sure when you are doing your ECU flash, you have your plan set down the road for emissions. Second, sport mode is a god send when driving these beasts. Sport Plus gives you the same features as Sport but with faster shifting. However remember if you are doing lap after lap, or pull after pull, you will be better off running in Standard. This is because Sport Mode gives you that extra boost but increases the EGT temperatures that are monitored with the probe in the headers. When the EGTs get to high, the car will start to pull back timing and you will lose top end power. Something that can be easily repeatable on the dyno or physically felt in the car.

My Turbo S was flashed by Sportec and I am yet to fail an emissions test. I have a Euro Pipe exhaust.

BarrettG is infamous around these parts
Big thanks to Dan @ Vivid Racing and their tune! This is my second tune, first was with my '09 manual and I thought that was fast, but no comparison to the speed and quick shifts of my '12! Car is ridiculous!!
PS: Really appreciated Dan spending his Sunday helping me install the tune, customer service like that, simply doesn't exist anymore!!!

Thank you Barrett! Glad you are enjoying it, looks like the remoteKEY was delivered today too, be sure to post up a review of that/the tune if you can! I know there are a few other members interested in how that works out.
