'Not another oil thread', thread!

Hello all,

I JUST picked up an EVT700 997 TT, and I am reading many different articles about which oil weight to use, which manufacture, etc.

I *believe* I've limited it to the following:

Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w-40

Pentosin 5w-40

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Justin

Why not Mobil 1 Euro? Reason to rule that out? I recently picked up a modded 997.1TT and will probably change the oil soon....

I used the motul x-cess in my 997.1TT until last yr -when i switched to mobil 1 5w-50 after reading what Kevin recommended. Get my oil on amazon when i can find free shipping- which is costly to Hawaii.

Mobil 1 0W-40, change it every year which is 3-4k miles for me.
I buy it at WALMART for ~$26 for a 5 quart bottle. Since I use this for my 3 (non-diesel) Porsches, I order 8 bottles (40 qts) at a time and get free shipping (over $35) to my door. Not sure if that offer applies in Hawaii.

How do you intend on driving your car? Are you a "Sunday Driver?"

I also use Mobil One 5W50. First thing I noticed with this grade, was a quieter cold start. Just finished this oil change tonight in fact.

Don't save a few pennies on a cheaper oil regardless.

Would never step away from engine manufacturers recommendation. It's a turbocharged engine so swapping from 0W to 5W seems unnecessary.

Stock is 0-40, 5-50 is providing less lubrication at cold starts. But if you are in a warm place you prob are ok.
