Installing assembled spring/shocks?

I've read that swapping lowering springs on to the factory shocks is a bit involved and usually requires 6-8 hours of shop labor (probably includes an hour for alignment).

However, has anyone DIY'd an already fully assembled set? It seems like just a few bolts on top and on bottom but I am unsure. I realize an alignment will still be required after but wanted to see how involved of a DIY this is.
