When buying headers I look for one of 2 things schedule 10 stainless steel pipe (very thick about 12 gauge) or 321 stainless (if it's thick enough to support the turbo it probably won't crack)

The first option is heavy and cheap the second is lighter and expensive.

Kline has some nice headers for the 997.2s. Talk to Sam from ByDesign. I think you can get them either in stainless steel or Inconel. I've seen them on the 991s and they are quality. Haven't heard of any issues cracking.

Or, if you want something no-compromise, BBi has one piece cast Inconel headers for the 997.2. I run them on my car. Lifetime warranty

From my experience (on other cars) i feel like turbo headers work like gradients between turbo sizes.

If you use huge diameter primaries and a high volume collector with no thermal barrier your turbo will spool slower but will make a couple more ponies on the big end. The exhaust gas cools and carries less energy into the turbine (making it act bigger than it is)

If you go to small primaries with ceramic coating inside and out or double wall etc. the turbos will spool faster but since the exhaust gas retains so much energy it will choke out the turbine and possibly even the waste gate (bigger problem on single turbo cars) with less dense air leaving a couple hp on the table and maybe causing boost spikes. (making the turbine act smaller than it is)

Also.... scavenging on a turbo motor isn't possible in boost scavenging requires free flowing exhaust so that the pressure waves draw the exhaust gasses out.... yeah when all those exhaust gas pulses build up behind a turbine there is no scavenging. And even when you design a header for scavenging it only works over a very small RPM range that the wave lengths line up just right. N/A cars usually tune it for right before redline on a turbo car you usually tune it to help spool the turbo faster.

But you know... i have no idea what i'm talking about please continue to vote down my rep.

Two cents...
Fabspeed are Chinese, with cast merge collectors.

AWE are 321 ss, made in USA, guaranteed for life, proven by many here for years.

You get what you pay for.

Concerning headers how does it effect exhaust sound?

Someone that has actual experience with just a header swap with the same exhaust before and after the swap.

On VTG's does it have a higher pitch shriek, lower bass sound growl etc?

I bought my 996T with Billy Boat headers (never a problem after 35 000+ miles with cracking etc) already in the car, so I don't know how it effects sound verses stock manifold.

One of my highest priorities with my 911 is a visceral feel and sound to my machine. If adding headers only add more "exotic" sound AND DOES NOT TAKE AWAY POWER, I am very interested!

Hopefully I would not lose a rep point for this innocent post as well...

I'm doing a exaust 3 inch vs same exaust and headers in the next week or so..i actually just started filming.....people on the forums are so against buying headers because they might not make much power but it will make your car sound better but they'll buy a 3000 aero wing....
To be honest the header is going to give you the sound the designer sets them for....I'm leaving you a message

We will be finishing up a set for brooklynboosting shortly for those locally interested you can swing by our shop anytime to see a set in person!
I can 110% vouch for FabWorx. They did my manifolds, exhaust, as well as many other parts. If anyone would like to see them in person after almost 2 years of daily use I'd be happy to meet up in NNJ or come to one of the Bergen County Cars & Caffee events
