ProEFI Problems to be AWARE of
My car is currently running the ProEfi 112, So far the car is running pretty good. D3 did the install and worked on the latest firmware with my car. There are a few problem that need to be addressed, I am hoping to get it back to d3 to fix these issues this coming month. First of all start up on E85, this takes 15 to 20 seconds to get the car to fire off. Once running the car gives me a PSM light and a PTM warning on the odometer, The PTM warning can be cleared but will reappear after about 5 to 10 miles. If the start up gets fix and the PSM/PTM issue is fix then, I will be 100% happy with the ECU. We are running a Syvecs on my brothers 996, there is nothing to complain about on it besides the lack of tuners. I do like the rolling Anti lag on my car and the 2 Step is very nice.

I have the same PSM and PTM, but I think it's cause my PTM batteries are nearly dead (the PTM module isn't part of the proefi, you can test/program it with a durametric) - all my pressures read correctly via durametric, so maybe something is conflicting.
Not sure on the fuel setup you're running, but Turtle did dial in my cold start fairly nicely. 5-7 crank revolutions on ethanol. Hopefully Chris can do the same.

Yes Chris should be able to get the start up much better, I have the SRM Brushless pumps on the car. I think PTM is Porsche Traction Management, because I disabled my tire pressure sensor a while back. I want to get the standalone 100% before my new motor is finished. I would rather this motor be the test bed, then the new one.
FYI, I have no PSM/STM errors with my pro128.
Also.. my car cold starts too fast on E85. ha. I wish it would turn over a few more times to build oil pressure.
mine isnt perfect.. it has a few holes in the tune that need work, but 95% is good.

So you are telling us that if you get a junk harness the answer won't be buy another one and cross your fingers anymore?
3 local friends of mine experienced exactly what the OP did....2 of them actually trailer-ed their cars to a reputable tuner in NJ and in turn they received great disappointment & **** for tuning...... their money, a waste.
Then a friend of mine recently bought a plug n' play harness for his 112 box from a proefi retailer and almost half of the pins, we're pinned incorrectly.
Wtf is the excuse when it comes to quality control? Personally I'd never run a ProEfi, as more time goes by people will see how much proefi is disliked... I can see why now D3 aka Chris Delgado is doing Tech Support, he's probably cleaning up a lot of pro-efi's mess...Ironic that they took OP's money and then months & months later they shipped him stuff that wasn't even complete..........

For the record.. my car runs well on the proEFI 128. The software layout is a bit odd, but once if you find stuff it works.
I agree about the comments on proEFI company itself. Everytime I had to talk to them I felt like I am doing them a favor by being their customer. Garth @ TurtleTuned really knows these boxes at least on Porsche's and got my car running quickly.

Syvecs has it's ups and downs as well, the two tuners who know it, know it very, very, well and can support the 996/997tt platform better than anyone with proefi knowledge.
I've been dealing with it for the last year and a half and it has gotten better on the ProEFI front with the latest firmware. I don't have any first hand experience with Syvecs, so take my above comments for speculation and second hand knowledge from speaking with those who have run them.

There is no doubt that MoTeC wouldn't be the best solution but it will probably cost 2-3X what a proEFI does. and a lot more work on the firmware side (CAN work as you elude to)
A local friend of mine will have his Syvecs 997 running soon. Will be interesting to compare the two.
I will say that despite all of the PITA i have gone through (i was one of the first 997 proEFI customers) I am 100% glad I went this route vs trying to make the stock ECU work.
the ONLY compliant I have with my proEFI at this point is 1) cruise control doesn't work using the factory stalk 2) few holes where the drivability isn't great. that is purely tuning, and would be the same for any system. 90% of the map is perfect. But now that I have put a a bunch of daily driver type miles, I have found a few areas that I need to fine tune.
oh.. and 3) One of the worst customer experiences I have had with proEFI. They hate their customers. Luckily Garth and Chris D seems to like us

Garth is a good dude, he spent a couple days out at my place working on the car. Super nice guy, super helpful and went way out of his way on some things. However, I will say that there was some pretty major ignorance in the tune in regard to safety. More ignition timing in the tune than anyone has ever seen and excess fuel trims that were way beyond anything even reasonable.
I normally don't blast people on the boards and that's not my intention, but I would caution people about using any tuner they don't trust 100% and if they are in doubt, I would advise a second look at the tune/map file from someone familiar with the platform just to cross check / quality assure the work.
Garth - great dude. But I'm now in a situation dude to the disregard for safety and proper timing/fueling.

I dont have any experience on this platform so I can't say for sure whether my timing is obscene or not. I do know it hasn't blown up yet (
) even when I was on stock rods making 900rw, they were not bent.
Also when I had a fuel system that didnt work (SRM.. grumble) and fuel pressure tanked to zero the proEFI kept up with it until the very end. it detonated a little(went WAY lean) but didnt hurt anything other than some peppering on top of the piston
As far as fuel trims.. you dont set fuel trims, so are you saying that the VE map wasn't dialed in yet and relying too much on trims?
