100-200kmh and 60-130mph modified vtg

Naj, By Design Stage 4 with meth. We were making about 740 to the wheels doing 5.2 on the stock motor. 9.7 1/4 mile @ 144 and 175 in the 1/2 with slipping clutches. After a mild engine build for some more head flow and the Dodson Clutch upgrade we are now making a bit over 800 wheel and hit 5.0 before we broke the PDK drag racing. The car did almost 149 in the 1/4 running our Stage 4 with By Design/TiAL 68mm VTG's! She will be on the road again this week.

Doing my happy dance waiting for this thing, patience is not a strong virtue of mine but appreciate all the work Sam is doing 😎

Cheers guys!

Long time no news here, so I will start with a little teaser:
That's the beginning of our water/meth projekt. About 90 hp behind of what we had last year as maximum and good 200 Nm less. Not much is happening until 4500 revs. Current hp is 690 with 810 Nm torque running on pump (good stuff though: Aral 102).
100-200 km/h is 5.5 seconds, no water/meth yet. Quickest time last year was a 4.66, but we had to dial it back a little for summer temperatures and were down to 4.9x. Software is a complete new approach to things and hence we are still a little behind (by intention).
We are logging data and are preparing stuff for a before/after comparison. The plan is to get to the old specs with pump fuel now (1000 Nm / 780 hp) and then add water/meth to the equasion. I would be disappointed if we don't see 8xx hp with stable temperatures, but we already were pushing the envelope quite a bit. Still VTG technology, but of course with a bigger compressor wheel and a built engine.
Yeah, right, before I forget: no out of the can tune or tune by clicking checkboxes, but customized stuff done the old fashioned way. You know: back then, when people used to know their stuff and good music was analog

We're getting similar figures on completely stock engine and race gas. No meth. I'm just going to run on race gas as hardly use the car now as overseas 80% of the time.
These figures all set on road on old coolers set by a catless car of a friend. Have better coolers now so expect improvements.
I have had an 18 sec 60-300kph on my first and only run in my catted stock engined car at VMAX but ended up in a field and caused about $15k of damage. Hopefully we have much better stats to come by Sept when we can run properly in anger again as my first run was only a sighter! Also reached rev limiter and a top speed of 215mph about 200 meters before brake board over 1.3 miles!
GT996 what rods and headstuds did you go for when building engine? Did you increase capacity to 3.8 litres? Also did you pin cam sleeves? Any other recommendations? Can't wait to see what stats you get with meth/pump!

I have seen bent rods that had only seen 900 Nm of torque. Two cars displayed these rods directly on the street and 2 others had them already bent when they had the engines done as a
This car has stock 3.6 litres. Stock headstuds but reduced compression. Cams/sleeves pinning I am not sure. I know two cars that had rotated sleeves so I would do it for sure. This car also has the aero package and a bigger front splitter/lip and that creates some additional drag (as expected). Taking the rear wing off immediately makes the car 4/10 quicker 100-250.
When you do the engine my recommendation would be to drop the VTGs Stock 3.6 litres, don't mess with other pistons or fancy stuff. Keep everthing OEM if possible. Rods (we use Pauter), injectors, reduced compression and probably some cylinder head work. OEM headers run hotter than aftermarket (insulated package vs just pipes). Stay with VTG and fight temperatures or change to other turbos and call it a day.
Seriously: we are pushing the envelope here to see what's possible. Just for the fun of it. A lot of work and a lot of problems that mainly result from the VTG technology. Perfect for a 600 hp tune with just software, intercoolers and an exhaust. Beyond that, VTG is not that interesting in my opinion.
If we just would put on other turbos the 1000 hp would long be there. As of todays final measurement before the water/meth, this car has 760 hp and 1008 Nm of torque.
60-130 mph is down to 5.6 and 100-200 is 4.8 seconds. That's it on pump. I see no more bigger improvements being possible or at least I have no more ideas how to optimize this any further on plain pump fuel.
We will see what water/meth can do.

You are welcome. Where is that 3073 thread? I talked with Sam long time ago and we had the same opinion that 3073 would be a very good turbo for these 997s - probably with the HTZ/Xona geometry. On my 996 I am actually running Tial Alpha A2871. When VTG lovers praise the response of VTGs I show them the torque curve and response of my car and next thing you hear is silence

Just got word that the engine is back in the car, bovs have been welded onto the intercoolers and humpty is nearly back together. should have some first impressions real soon, fingers crossed.

Cool. That will be interesting.
