Oil Pan Seeping?

The car is under warranty, but I'm wondering if it's common for a 4 year old car (2012) with 12,5XX miles to need a new oil pan gasket. It seems pretty ****ty to me and lucky I have a warranty since it would have been $4K according to the service person.

Where is the oil pan? We have a gasketless engine case for a pan.

He has a .2. They have a different oiling system than the Mezger and have a small pan on the bottom of the motor.

The car was at the dealer for tires and I guess they noticed it when it was on the lift.

Age is not the biggie here but miles. At 12,5xx miles the car is still "new". And this oil leak is a new car problem. I can't recall coming across any reports of oil pan leaks with the newer models so this leak is just a fluke is my take.

Hard to believe it is a $4K oil leak unless perhaps the engine has to come out to get to the leak. (Or the leak is something else that requires more work.) And remember too the dealer would very much like to sell you an extended warranty so the "price" can be inflated as part of the technique (such as it is) for sowing the seeds of concern and the possibility of an extended warranty sale down the road.

But it is covered by warranty so who cares? Focus on getting this taken care of ASAP then resume using the car to confirm the oil leak has been fixed.

It was fixed already, but yes they did have to lower the engine to repair the issue. The car was there for a few days.
