Totally Perplexed, 997tt.1 vs 991. values
...and that silver 6-speed cab is priced suspiciously lower than the others despite having low mileage and a manual. Next one up is an S with PDK, 10k higher mileage and still more watchers over the manual one. ...and the rest are in the 90's.
I was in the same boat last year! Went back and forth for a good 12 months. I test drove multiple 997.1 turbos, some 6 speed, some tiptronic. 6 speed all the waaaaaaaay! Then, one eventful day in August of 2015 I test drove a 2011 TTS cab with PDK and I was hooked. Could not believe the acceleration, feel, and smoothness of the PDK. Topless driving was awesome too!
After that experience I went back to the financial drawing board to figure out how to "get there." In March of 2016, a worthy deal came about and I jumped on it.
I finally pulled the trigger on a 2011 TTS cab, black with tan interior and PDK. I bough it with 14k miles. Absolutely love that thing!!!
Bought it from a Porscher dealer, got it CPO'd for 2 years. Car just had the plugs, filters, oil, and tires are changed out right before I took delivery.
I too, look at sales price and ratio to MSRP. I figured, if I buy around 50% of MSRP, I can later trade sell, etc for some where between 40% and 45% of MSRP....especially if I keep the miles down. For me, I overspent by about $10k, but truthfully, I don't regret it. Every time I look at my toy, I think, "I got what I wanted to a 'T' and then some!" I wasn't even looking for a Turbo S b/c of the price, but came across one that had everything I want and then some for a very good price. To some degree, I got tired of waiting for prices to "come down" and just went for it.
If the third pedal is a must have, don't buy PDK. (IMHO) That engagement with the left foot and right hand is hard to replace. PDK makes it sooooo easy to drive a turbo FAST! Having the 3rd pedal makes it more difficult but it's more engaging/feel like you're part of the car. I traded a 6-speed 2012 Grand Sport Vette and miss shifting. However, PDK makes it so easy to drive fast, that I have more fun going fast and experiencing the turbo boost. This experience, for me, makes up for the missing 3rd pedal. For some, that's not the case. I'm not knocking the 3rd pedal, I would very much still like a toy with a 3rd pedal, but for now, I'm content with PDK.
Good luck!

One additional note, if you're looking for a very well kept example, 1 owner with low miles defined as less than 20k, you're going to pay in the 80s for a 997.1TT. In previous months, I have seen a few in the high, high 70s. I haven't seen those cars struggle with being sold. Just my .02

Prices seem to be on the uptick for low mileage/desirable 6 speed cars.
And its winter

FWIW - my car 997.1TT 12k miles, PCCB, sport seats, chrono, fidelity warranty asking for $85k. I've had multiple offers in the $80s but it wasn't enough for me to let go. 10 years down the road, good luck looking for proper 997TT with 6speed in that price range. Of course, 991TT>997.2TT>997.1TT>993TT>964TT as far as driving dynamic, power, handling and Turbo technology. However, porsche collectible are base on heritage, pedigree and last of of the evolution. 993TT was the last of the aircool, 997.1TT is the last of mezger with proper 6speed. As for 9A1 engine, there are no question about reliability and better car overall compare to 997.1TT, but 991 have better driving dynamic, faster and improve PDK. I would rather keep a 997.1TT or buy 991TT skipping 997.2TT because it's faster, handling better and improve driving dynamic.
I agree and will be putting a deposit down on an 08 cab 6 speed with 21,390 miles, perfect can't wait. I figured I will be able to drive $150,000.00 car for half price and drive it for a couple of years and probably sell it for what I paid or take a $5000.00 hit. I rationalized the purchase by being willing to take a $5-10,000 hit for the opportunity to own such a car. I don't think I can drive any car and not suffer such a potential loss, not to mention this car could actually appreciate. So I feel safe making such a purchase.

there is some truth to this but thats very unfair. The porsche will cost you $$ to keep running in perfect shape during that time.
100% agree but people arguing 997.2 have better suspension, interior, update PCM (which is fossil technology now), PDK, better driving dynamic and etc. My point is 991TT trump 997.2TT in all that category. As for manual, you bet it will be the very last breed in Porsche Turbo production cars (I don't think they will offer manual in Turbo again). I also point out 997.2TT is an improvement over 997.1TT but pricing in 997.1TT creeping up to 997.2TT and climbing. I bought my car over 2 years ago with less miles for $77k, I am selling it in the mid $80k with more miles now. When I was in the market 997.2TT were at least $20k more, the same 997.2TT prolly depreciate $10-$15k in today market while my gain almost 10% more. Don't get me wrong 997.2TT is one beautiful looking car and a monster on the road but it's still on the deprecation curve while 997.1TT manual are at the plateau and increasing in values. It make me wonder why I have phone calls from European client inquiring about my car.
In 10 years nobody is going to want PDK and tip 997s, the 6sp will be in demand, bet your house on that. Auto shift trannies change and improve every 5 years, the manual hasnt really changed since the 964.
