New custom Cobb tune
New custom Cobb tune
Hello all,
I have an appointment with an authorized Cobb dealer in a couple of weeks. He is very experienced at tuning other cars e.g. GT-R's, EVO's, STI's, Supra's, et al. I have known him for several years, had other cars tuned by him, and know several of his customers that have also had tunes done by him. No complaints. However, he has never tuned a 997.2 TTS.
My questions (or mild concerns) is/are, is there anything unique about tuning the Porsche as opposed to any of the other cars I noted above? In other words: Are there any special circumstances or characteristics that should be considered prior to tuning a 997.2 TTS that might not apply to the other cars I mentioned? Is it just a case of; I can tune just about anything with a Cobb, EFI, etc, so I should be able to tune the Porsche just fine?
I'm hoping for a conservative (safe) tune that takes advantage of the new exhaust (decat) I have installed, and to disable the CEL light ffrom the post O2 sensors.
Thank you, and I appreciate any thoughts!

Where are you located?
I did something similar and went with a shop that does mostly GTRs and some Porsches. The end result was months of frustration and extra money out the door. Finally got things straightened out with the help of a couple great people on this forum (Sam@ByDesign and Mitch@Cobb). The shop in question made a number of mistakes and the follow through on support really sucked. I will not use that shop again.
Choose wisely.

Consider reaching out to cobb directly - their shelf maps for the 997s are pretty damn good. If you're not in Austin getting in person help out of them for porshes is a bit more difficult but their guys are rock solid and the porsches are one of the few platforms where they including actual help tuning if necessary.
Certainly if you have additional mods that may not be reflected in their staged maps consider a pro tune for the best experience, but their shelf maps are really really good for these cars.

yes 100%
I would only use an experienced Porsche COBB tuner.

Based on the replies, I feel compelled to seek out someone that has experience with tuning Porsches. I am curious, however, what nuances there are with tuning Porsches as opposed to other types of turbo'd cars.

Buy your AP from Sam here on the forums. He will give you a good deal and help you out with tailoring your flash to your own needs.
The nuances with this platform are many. There are many maps that people aren't used to seeing on other platforms that require tweaking in combination to have the appropriate response. This isn't a 911 specific thing, rather how Bosch decided to setup the ECU.
