I'd say the level 5 and 6 are too many...
My car had significantly less. Single digits in level 6

agreed too many 5 and 6

clean ones usually are in single digits AT MOST for those rev ranges

Mine was 0 in both ranges

Can either of you point to a single example of a TT with range 5 and 6 over revs over 250 hours ago developing problems because of them? Or let's make it easier and say over 100 hours? 50?

i absolutely cannot point to any example

the engine is probably fine and will live a long happy life

but for me, as i am (maybe totally unreasonably) risk averse, its something that i would think about, and dwell on if i owned that car
Thus..I wouldnt go for it

use it as a bargaining tool to get a lower price...then you can buy it guilt free

I wouldnt worry about it.

My DME is nearly as colorful

Looks like one or two bad shifts and long ago

These engines can handle a lot.

Here is mine:

range 4:388
range 5:327
range 6:161

and that was as of two years ago done by prev owner

As far as I can ascertain, 100% of the hysteria about old over revs is arbitrary and hypothetical. I know the factory document has different levels of damage probability, but all evidence I've seen indicates that if a money shift is going to break a car, it happens right away.

I certainly hear way more "my car has hundreds of range 6s and is healthy as a mule" stories than "my car had 20 range 4s and the engine rattled apart on my way home from work."
