Parasitic draw documentation
Hey all, just wanted to document a parasitic battery draw that I had on my car that has finally been worked up and solved. I always find it helpful when people share their experiences for others, so I wanted to take a few mins to do so.
This may save someone in the future a lot of headache and $$.
Finally got my car back after 3 months getting a LOT of work done on it - long story short - coolant leak, turned out to be the classic 997 failure, thank GOD the aftermarket warranty pulled through - paid 7,000 to the dealer. I also had the sharkwerks pieces installed and the rest of the coolant pipes pinned (will document this in another thread later).
Got the car home, and a few days later walked to the car and noticed the battery was completely flat. Had to roll the car out of the garage, get in through the fusebox, and jump start. And the next day once again fully flat again. Battery is new and alternator appeared to be charging just fine when car was running. Scratched my head for a few days, couldn't figure it out, and took it back to the dealer.
Dealer also had quite a difficult time working this up. Car was having a 10 amp draw every 30 seconds, non stop. First ruled out that it was fully unrelated to the work done. After many hours of work, turned out to be a faulty switch on the passenger seat. One of the switches for the seat adjustments was sticking in position (such as pushing the lever up/down to move the seat), causing this draw. Tested for myself and saw how it was getting stuck.
Cheapest price I could find for the replacement parts, Porsche Parts Merriam:
997-613-718-02-V05 Adjust Switch $448.621
997-521-633-03-V05 Button $36.441
997-521-631-02-V05 Button $36.441
They swapped this out for me, and got the car back to me the same day. Feels great to finally have this solved and although the little passenger seat adjustment switch was expensive, thankful it wasn't anything more serious! So if you guys are having any type of weird parasitic draw, definitely check EVERY BUTTON in your interior to make sure something isn't sticking.
