Old Subject (Probably) Refreshed For Advice Please
Hi Guys
I'm almost there on the purchase of a 2009 Gen 1.5 997 Turbo Tip Coupe, done 49k miles, full OPC history just serviced last week, so the big question, how at risk am I of the coolant pipe failure issue? Do I need to have the repair done to avoid the inevitable or is it reasonably low probability, specialists here in the UK want almost £6k GBP for it, OUCH.
Here in the UK weather conditions are a lot cooler than other climates and I will never track it, but it did have a tune with meth injection prior to my interest, that has been completely removed now.
Just looking for some advice on this, the car is well within budget, that's not the point of the advice request, I plan to use it as a daily so £6k in bills early on and a week without it has started to give me some second thoughts.
Thanks
Carl

At that age and miles, there is certainly risk it could happen at any time. There are many examples of cars with higher mileage that have never had an issue, as well as some younger cars with less miles that have. I personally would drive the car and just always keep an eye (and nose) out for coolant leaks, and suggest proactively biting the bullet next time you have a major service of some sort as they will "already be in there" and can usually get it done for a lower price. I had mine done when upgrading turbo's and such and it saved a chunk of money vs doing it as its own service.
I don't think it is inevitable but mine did suddenly let go a few years ago at 40-something thousand miles and it did cost in the ballpark of US$5k at that time but I had a ton of other parts replaced as well, not just the failed pipe/elbow.
That'd be really nice to hear, mine is March 2009 registered, Gen 1.5 model
Supposedly Porsche made a small improvement in the epoxy used for the '09 but it still happens. There was a poll thread on one of the 'other' boards on this.
