Bad news, good news, bad, good warranty issue
Bad news. My TT developed a little clunk sound coming from the front end. This only happened when turning sharp, like turning around in my driveway. The mechanic got in the car and I made the sound 3 times in their lot, great. I decided to get an oil change because even though the car has only 3400 miles on it, it also has two track days. I have to leave the car and they get a loaner for me. Good news. It was a Cayman S! Sadly, it had that horrid tip in it. Other than the power difference the Cayman S is a really sweet handeling car, even better than the 997TT. I whipped it into my favorite exit just like I do in the 997 and the **** end did not slip out a bit like the 997 does. I had a friend in the car and was buzzing along a backroad and without warning I whipped the Cayman into a very tight on ramp that has a decreasing radius 270 degree turn onto the highway. He nearly s**t himself. Not even a 4 wheel drift. I let Bob K play with it also, maybe he will add his comments here later. Salesman gave me permission to wring it out, let Bob K and another friend play with it too. I call the salesman and tell him that if this car had a 6 speed he may not get it back.
Bad news. The clunk was coming from a bad thingy on the right shock tower. They had to overnight a part and my TT would not get back to me until the next afternoon. I get to play with the Cayman another day. The part does not show up and now we are into Friday, still no part. I get a call and the part is on backorder and won't be available till Sept 20th or a bit later.
My oil was changed, the car detailed, and I was told I could come and get it because the clunk was not life threatining, OK to drive it. I drive through traffic and pick up my fully detailed and waxed car and drive home in the rain
They have a White Cayman S with 900 miles on it sitting outside. Sport chrono, short shifter, 19"s, PASM, and a few other goodies. If that white Cayman S is still there when my part comes in I was told that I could have it as a loaner. I hope it's a sunny day.
