VIDEO: EVO 997TT vs 997TT

Here are a few short videos of our EVO 997TT vs a 997TT with sport exhaust and headers. The only difference between the cars is the GIAC software as well as our EVO 997TT is running muffler bypass pipes w/ catalysts. The videos speak for themselves :D

Dont know .. Mike do you know??

treynor 11-21-2006 11:29 PM

Sweet - those side-by-sides really illustrate how much power the cars pick up when uncorked.

More vids! More vids!

AzExoticLover 11-21-2006 11:42 PM

Wow! Thats a huge diffrence.... I cant believe thats Software only difference.

fredttx50 11-21-2006 11:58 PM

Todd and Mike, hurry up and send over the flashing kit to Sharky. I want my early Christmas present ;-)

BigBadBen 11-22-2006 01:14 AM

Todd, on the last run when you said 3rd gear, there seemed to be a definate lag before the Giac tuned car took off, I was wondering what speed/RPM's you were pulling then....just curious....am I right was there a noticable lag?

Ben

I'm wondering the same thing.

We were doing a low rpm/speed 3rd gear start. The camera car may have had a slight jump on the start but there is no additional turbo lag with the software.

It's almost axiomatic that the car with the freer-flowing exhaust & cats will have less lag, regardless of software. I'm sure the EVO software doesn't make the car more laggy too.

gmoney 11-22-2006 10:28 AM

that is just ridiculous! Im sold.

BigBadBen 11-22-2006 11:11 AM

Todd, I did not mean additional lag, just lag.

bentley500 11-22-2006 11:23 AM

i am confused.. did both cars have EVOMS exhausts/cats? or only the silver which also has the GIAC??

but nice comparo video, it looks the the black 997TT wasnt even racing!!!!!!!

Pierre996TT 11-22-2006 11:41 AM

guys, you are having a great time...congrats!

mt72 11-22-2006 11:58 AM

Both cars had high flow catalysts and our headers. The camera car had a Fabspeed muffler while the silver car had straight pipes off the catalysts. The only other difference with the silver car is the software

Ok, now I see. We were doing a ~25 MPH 3rd gear roll on. It took a few seconds to get the rpms up. :)

Working on it. You will be faster by Christmas ;)

Peak boost is 1.156 bar (17 psi) in overboost mode.

KPG 11-22-2006 01:19 PM

Great video... straight pipes actually sound pretty civilized on the one car. Are both vehicles 6 speeds..Thanks, kevin

Aisxos 11-22-2006 01:41 PM

If you see the first video too you will understand that both cars are manual.. :)
Unbelievable difference Todd.. Like the black car started with one gear up..

gmoney 11-22-2006 02:03 PM

Im not sure if I missed this or not but with the software how does sport mode come into play boost wise?
I.e. stock boost?
flashed non sport?
flashed sport?

tks!

mishref 11-22-2006 04:27 PM

How do I go about making my 997 do that .. :)

dr_sharp 11-22-2006 08:01 PM

I don't doubt your credibility but that is unbelievable!

WOW!

treynor 11-22-2006 08:27 PM

I don't doubt it - the difference from stock car to (in my case) Protomotive ECU was literally night and day.

iLLM3 11-23-2006 01:19 AM

Damm huge difference is right, i guess the low rpm start ina higher gear is also very decieving in terms of seeing "lag" ! Thanks for sharing :)

topdaytrader 11-23-2006 09:34 AM

thats crazy~~~~~~~~~~

LUISGT3 11-23-2006 10:31 AM

I drove the Evo 997TT yesterday. All is can say is they are definately doing something right. It sounds phenomenal and when the boost kicks in, it is all business. Very linear power curve and felt like it was ready for more. Great work fellas!

DavidS 11-23-2006 11:30 AM

Wow, that's unbeleivable to see such a huge difference only because of the software. You'd almost say that Porsche deliberately tried to keep down the power on the 997TT. That way the 997TT"S" will be easy to faster only because of different software.
Btw, are there other cars that gain so much power only due to a software change as the 997TT?

gmoney 11-23-2006 11:34 AM

Yes, Evo IX for one. $900 tuning session gains almost 100hp. Pretty much any Turbo Japanese car has tons of power lurking with a tune.

Note that its upping boost to get the power, maybe leaning it out a bit (in the Evo's case) because it runs pig rich from the factory and also keeping the AFR's in check.

TT / S will not simply get a software edit but different turbos and intercoolers perhaps.

LSM 11-25-2006 08:26 PM

In the first video, it appears the guy in the non-giac car upshifts and starts the race at 2500RPM's!! Look at the tachometer...
