I appreciate all responses, and thanks for the feedback, keep them coming.

So from what I gather, the people who have posted negatively in this post are saying so only because of:

1. It's a 20" wheel, and any 20" wheel with a lip is considered bling, regardless of maker. Now certainly there are some brands who are performance focused, but this wheel is not one of those. There are some people who just want a nice wheel to drive on the street, and this product is targeted towards that market.

2. It's the name.

Of course, we do not expect people to drive these or any 20" wheel on the track. Some people buy wheels for reasons other than going to the track. This wheel, and like all other 20" wheels we sell for 997, fall in this category.

One thing to note: when the 996 was a new car, we were blasted in the same manner for putting 19" wheels on those. After 2-3 years it seemed to be widely accepted that a 19" wheel was the way to go. Now that it has become sort of the norm, I don't see a lot of people complaining about the 19" wheels that come standard on the 997. I think it is only natural that some consumers will want to upgrade size from factory at least 1" when purchasing wheels.

For a performance application, 19" were NEVER the way to go on a 996. The reason why after 2-3 years you saw an increase in this particular phenomena was likely because as the 996 aged, the original owners traded their cars in and they began falling into enthusiasts hands, who began modifying the cars to their liking. If you look at people who own cup cars, you're never going to see them concerned with the size of their lip or how much chrome is on the center cap.

If the goal is to drastically change the appearance of the car, then going big is the obvious choice. But from a purely performance standpoint, heavy 20" wheels with a huge lip will ultimately hurt the performance of the vehicle.

Of course, I understand that, and always have. The point i was trying to make was that these aren't performance wheels, so to speak. We weren't going for a pure performance standpoint in the first place. These are just for the guy who wants to dress up his car.

[quote=C4S Surgeon]20" rims are pure bling on a TT, poor traction/poor performance.

I do not agree at all concerning that, performance has also to do with the size/height/diameter of the wheel...... = the bigger diameter = the less torque = less performance

and I don't think that f.e. Sportec would use 12x20" on the SPR1 if they would have poor traction

YOU CAN SAY THAT CHROME DIP DISH WHEELS = POSER, but not always....
but size doesn't matter... at least not concerning the wheels

we do need posers, racers and all different tastes and opinions, otherwise it would be SOOOO BOOOOORING TO SEE ÊVERYWHERE THE SAME CARS AND SAME STYLE !!! BE HAPPY AND ENJOY YOUR CAR

i think we're being a little harsh on peter and the wheels here.

20s are fine on the 997 - it's no worse than putting 19s on the 996s since porsche increased the wheel diameter stock for stock from the 996 to the 997 model. u put 20s on a 996 and the tire profiles are ridiculously low whereas on the 997, it's pretty close to the 996s on 19s.

i can't stand any sort of stock wheels on a car so i prefer these mayas over the "forged bbs oem" wheels which i have a hard time believing. i bet you those stock 19" turbo wheels in the rear are close to being 30lbs (anyone weighed them?).

i wouldn't put mayas on a 911. they have absolutely 0/zilch/nada motorsport history. i wouldn't put HREs on a 911 as i think it's ridiculous that they make wheels that vibrate in the rain.

i'd stick to OZ superleggera IIIs, Work wheels or champion wheels on the 911 for those who want the flat lip. if you want reverse, you can consider getting the racey, plainer janer fikse wheels.

chrome lip is ghetto to me. it puts the weight right at the edges, does it not? polish aluminum with clearcoat is ideal since it's durable. a brand with motorsport history would be great. i like a mesh center as well.

that is not to say these mayas look bad - just to me it doesn't look right. i do love the lip and unless you have the talent to make $ off racing your 911, who freakin' cares what nominal loss you might feel on your butt going around a street corner or freeway on ramp. you're still no where close to approaching the limits of this fantastic car.

keep selling, peter. everyday peter hustlin'!

He said it best,.. ' these aren't performance wheels'..
They don't look bad, just don't seem to fit a TT forget about the performance loss.
