Turbo Break-in Tips

While some here will certainly think....Not Again....

Picking up my car tomorrow. Its got 17 kms on it now. Will take it for a 500 km drive and will keep it below 4200 rpms while varying engine speeds throughout the trip. Upon completion of the trip i am intending to drive it aggressively and do some accelleration runs from standstill and redlining it etc...

All comments welcome.............

Let me know if it blows up, because I have a very similar plan-- although I will go 500 miles be for full flogging.

Sort of what I did, only went to a thousand miles. After 500 I gradually pushed it harder and harder. First track day around 2000 miles. A good part of the break in is also the driver getting used to the car.
Good luck.

bah... most of the 'Breakin miles' are needed in the tranny/driveline area to work harden and wear in the gears. The motor/turbo should be ready to rip with in the first hour running.

started kicking it after warming her up and with approx. 25 kms on the odometer. She didnt complain. Lets see if I have blue smoke when I start her tomorrow...

dorve 500 kms in total´varying rpms and redlining quite often. no problems. no smell. nothing. just mad performance.

read my Aim and shoot thread..........

It really should not matter that much. Many of us do an extended break in just for our own piece of mind. Does the Porsche driving experience follow break in rules for their student cars?

better yet, how do you think the porsche GT3 24 hour cars are broken in? I'll tell you how, with a couple pulls on a dyno under moderate load to get the rings and such seated. After that it's ***** out.
