NavTV Question

I recently had the NavTV iPod adaptor installed in my 997TT. It's not very easy to use. The main problem I have is that you can't navigate like this:

Top > Artists > Albums > Songs

Instead, it makes you do this:

Top > Artists > Songs

Am I missing something? Anybody have any other NavTV comments? I'm thinking of having my installer switch it for the Dension.

Thanks!

I think the majority here have the dension unit .. which allows you to go from Artist > Albums > Songs.

Ray....have you talked with NavTV about the problems?

We distribute and support the Dension product. Though some have had some issues, it is nothing as bad as the NavTV product. Sorry.

I just got my NAVTV unit installed this evening. My installer recommended I try it based on the abundance of problems he's seen with the Dension products. I have to say, the interface of the NAVTV unit took some getting used to, but I can deal with most of it. What I hate is that playlists longer than 31 songs are a real hassle to navigate through. Everything else is manageable IMO. Does the Dension also suffer from the 31-song problem? I'm assuming it has something to do with PCM and its expectation that it's talking to CDs, not iPods.

Seperate pages for long playlists in the Dension unit. They break them into pages of 50 songs.

I find the Dension better at playing random songs (more random) than the NavTV, not sure if it's my imagination?

Ok, if you're on page 2, song one, and you hit the back button, what happens? On the NAVTV, it goes to page 1, song 1, which is lame.

Also, my PCM is now throwing a CD Changer error. Do I have to go to the dealer to get them to remove it? I'd rather not alert them to my aftermarket electronics.

Ray, I have the Dension in mine. You're welcome to try it out if you'd like. What color is your 997TT? I didn't know you were picking one up.

Thanks for the feedback on the NavTV. I'm going to have the unit swapped out for the Dension next week. I really hate the lack of browsing by Artist > Album. Also, about half the time, the PCM doesn't recognize it.

Jason, my 997TT is Basalt Black. I picked it up about 1.5 months ago.

Ray, does your PCM complain about the absence of the CD changer at startup? If not, did your installer do something, or did the dealer?

Sometimes when I start it, or just turn on the PCM, it will act like there is no CD or CD changer, so I can't even switch from radio to the NavTV. Unconnecting and reconnecting the iPod does not help. I just have to turn off the car and restart it, and sometimes it works.

My car did not come with a CD changer from the factory, so I wonder if that is complicating things. I took it to the P service, and they programming it to think it has a CD changer. However, I still have problems.

Update

I had the Dension unit fitted a couple of weeks ago. So far, it's working fine.

The only problem is that once in a while the iPod switches to "repeat the current song" mode when I turn on the car. Hmm. Otherwise, it works well.

Are you running the iPod UI mode? I also have the "repeat current track problem" in iPod UI mode, while Dension UI mode will eliminate the repeat bug.

The only problem running the Dension UI mode is that the PCM doesn't retain the random song setting.

Yes, I've been running the iPod UI mode, because it takes too long to browse long lists on the PCM.
