ok - unhooked the battery for 30 minutes. ECU obviously reset. drove it around for about 10 minutes and no more check engine light. whatever the reason, I think its related to the gas cap issue I mentioned above. so - all is well!

i have the same issue on a 996 TT - check engine light disappeared when reset battery - then when car gets hot again after spirited driving the light returns. - annoying!!

I would consider buying a cheap scan tool like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ACTRO...spagenameZWDVW

I just got this and it works on all of my cars and is CAN compatible with Porsche. It resets all CE lights and reads all error codes

ok, well FINALLY got it into the dealership to have this checked out. after running diagnostics all day they did conclude it was from the O2 sensors (my very first thought). this is after I brought the car back to Techart (CEC-BRABUS) and had them check it and they were certain it wasnt a result of the exhaust. so, I'll find out tomorrow what techart is going to do about it, but they ensured me that whatever the issue, they'll take care of it.

Keep this in mind some Exhaust systems such as FVD Race with 100 cell cats need an Ecu upgrade in order to get no faulty codes and check engine lights.

considering this is Techart, a company that works exclusively with Porsche, I wouldnt think anything more would be necessary. we'll see, Im dropping it off to them on monday.

How do you know that they worke exclusively with Porsche? Didn't they have issues with Porsche recently regarding some stolen Turbo engines? I'm just not sure that Porsche has any direct relationships with any aftermarket tuners except maybe RUF.
