Hmmm....whenever a Z06 owner says he crushed a 997 TT, we all get our underwear bunched up and proclaim that the 997 wasn't meant to be a drag racer.

But when we do the same to the F430 (which doesn't even sound like a real kill), all of the sudden it's okay?

it was a kill when i was torque braking. a complete kill.

the f430 had no chance whatsoever. we will do it with launch control as well. his dealer says the clutch is only good for 4-5 launches.

we will see

Sorry if this is a stupid question but are the Turbo's faster than the 430s? I always thought the F-cars were faster based on the rags I read. Not that I care since I got chip, intake, and exhaust now.

They're pretty even, but the Porsche has the AWD advantage plus gobs of torque. From a roll, you could flip a coin. As noted above though, nobody buys these cars for the 1/4 mile. Get a Z06 if that's all you care about.

Does it turn into a pumpkin at midnight as well? You should probably check with the dealer just to be safe.

Yes, I was being sarcastic but that was my point

Seriously... the dealer has a lot in common with a rock... they both share the same IQ, and the same amount of knowledge of your car. The only big difference is that the dealer can talk.

Actually his dealer is being honest about it which is pretty cool. Most of the dealers in the US failed to warn stradale owners that the clutch could only handle so many uses of LC and people got stuck with huge bills to replace the clutch. It's not ferraris job to replace items that you abused. Launch control isnt really that cool unless you are drag racing and all it basically does is slip the clutch and like any other car that costs money. Launching stick porsches is the same way. If you can beat the 430 on the track then you have something to talk about, but that car is worthless for drag racing. Comparing the 430 and the turbo is like arguing politics or religion, you can talk and talk and talk but the other side isnt gonna change their opinion. I'll give you guys credit for racing though!

P.S. I was as psyched about having LC as anyone in the 599, but when I found out how much it destroys the clutch I pretty much decided I would never use it. I would tell your friend not to use it for your race, it's just not worth abusing the car like that to prove something so insignificant. He should do whatever he wants and I'm not trying to tell him what to do or anything just make sure he knows its really hard on the car.

When a ZO6 guy reports "killing" a Porsche, I say so what...it's a corvette. I would never want to drive one.

Similarly, check out the Corvette forums....when a Mustang blows a Corvette out of the water, the 'vette guys respond in a similar fashion. They would rather drive a stock 400 HP vette than a blown 600 HP mustang.

It makes sense to me to talk about which cars in a particular class (997tt and F430 and Gallardo) are faster. It makes little sense to me to compare a Mitsubishi Evo, Skyline, Corvette, Mustang, Camaro with the upper class of automobiles....is anyone going to cancel their 997tt order because a tricked out Mitsubishi Evo with NO2 is faster than the turbo?

ok,
360 - 400hp less weight // 996 turbo - 420hp
430 - 490hp less weight // 997 turbo - 480/500hp

this is such a stupid argument. They're essentially the same power, delivered in totally different ways, in totally different cars.

It's obvious how bad these launch controls are on a car. I bet that's the reason why BMW also tuned down the American M5's LC.

What I like about these tiptronics turbos, or most large engine AMGs is that they can effortlessly go fast from stop, perfect for road use.
