Chris I did a side by side and it wasn't as sensitive, that could have been the installer's flaw though in all fairness.

One thing is for sure I have seen it on Mike's car and it does look top notch and very 007-ish

i had a k40 in the 997. tested it numerous times against the v1 which was mounted on the windshield.

let me put it to you this way: even my girlfriend noticed how much earlier the V1 alerted.

V1 untouched all the way imho.

No question about the V1 - hands down the best detector on the market. I've had everything from K40's to Passports and the V1 simply blows them all away. I know what you're saying about wanting something remote and concealable, but the convienence factor isn't worth the sacrifice in performance, IMHO.

I have a Passport SRX, integrated detector, and it has saved my *** several times. Not alone with radar but also with laser. They are only starting to use laser here in Memphis and they are sneaky. So far I am 3/3 on jamming laser. It also can pick up radar from far far away. It was tested at picking up Ka band from 7.6 miles away. I would reccomend it to anyone.

I have always liked the positive statements from owners of the V1, and they have convinced me the the V1 is a superior detector.

So, why have I not bought one and spent thousands on other detectors if I could have had superior radar warning for $600?

Two reasons:

1. The unit is just plain ugly and looks like it out of 1960s scifi movie.

2. It is a windshield mounted system, regardless of all the rear view mirror applications. I hate having to take my detector down every time I park my convertible.

Bel Electronics makes a system that is a detector and laser jammer. It gives you front and rear laser jamming. And lets not forget, a laser detector is useless, you need a jammer. And for that you need an installed solution.

although i agree with your laser statement in general, i have had several times where the v1 picked up laser in a car in front of me and i did not get made. however, i do like the new integrated solutions with laster jammers but hey, v1 does the job so i am sticking with it and may still add a separate jammer.
