Horsepower is Universal
Do you speak french ?
For those of you who do, you will enjoy the following article on our 997 TT Level 3 kit with our proprietary VTG Turbos. If you don't speak french ... it's ok, I don't either
, but the language of horsepower is universal.

Jiaim,
we really apprecciate your translation.
Note: that’s not a word to word translation, I’ve done with my modest English skills - Jiaim -
FVD 997 turbo
Wanna play with 620hp.
Pumped up cars coming across the Rhine to French ground are very rare , That’s why we got the focus on this 997 turbo tuned by fvd, pumping 620hp. Enough to do two things : play with chrono, and pushing up adrenalin.
997 turbo, not enough power? But she pulls hard!
But for some owners that’s not enough! You’ll read this elsewhere, Daniel Gentner (note jiaim: owner) is part of the ones who are not afraid by pushing to the limit, and makes as he wants.
His 997 turbo looks like stock but the fire is under the deck lid. Very happy with the work done, he contacted us to measure his Porsche and to know what her real value.
Very good, because all those monsters we showcase every month belong to dreams, impossible to find in France and inaccessible.
Finally Chronos
Our very knowledgeable reporter, Ian Kuah, send us every month his write ups about tuned Porsches. It’s very important to know what s all the tuners do because their work can inspire the mother factory, not speaking about their aggressive look and astonishing performances. But every time we have to trust the factory number claims. We always want to do our own measures of what sits on our territory. Sometimes ago, names like PSI appeared many times in our columns because this Belgian tuner worked directly with France. But PSI is no more as we known it. For frenchies who wants better performance there are our articles at flat6mag to know what they can do, but the fear of problems and insurance legalism pushes many owners backward.
Daniel Gentner took an opportunity as you’ll read in the “owner word”. We can now open the “reminders box” the last FVD preparation we tried was exactly seven years ago! Before, ***** Brombacher (note jiaim: FVD owner) was present at clubman meetings, and let us try his preparations when we met him. Now, his business has grown up, ***** now works in USA which are his main market but the European wing of FVD works as well. So we went to Strasbourg in order to try this 997 turbo boosted to 620 hp. Not an easy party in this crappy July month (note jiaim: the weather in France is absolutely terrible this summer! like fall!), to find a good day but we finally had a dry day, just before the temperature up! This could have penalized our measures. Finally we got the chance to have the same temps as when we tested the stock manual gearbox 997 turbo! Lucky we are.
Not a big intervention
We tell you now, the big advantage of this engine tuning his that you haven’t to open the block. This main modification consists of changing the stock turbos for bigger ones but maintaining the VTG technology. Those turbos with the k04-26 ref# are specially made by KKK and push up to 1.3bars (note jiaim: 18.85 psi). The motronic ecu is modified as well as the muffler and air filter. That’s all, 140 hp have been gained which is not a few hps. That’s right it’s easier to gain more hp from turbocharged engines than atmospheric ones. As a symbol, 620 hp is a hard striking number: 8 hp more than the carrera gt, what a dream!
Before the weather gets too hot, we start the chronos, with over boost. Meanwhile the time in 6th gear is not as good as expected, it is normal. We know that since the birth of universe, bigger turbos penalize re-acceleration but here not too much trouble 7.5sec don’t let us feel boring and, in 5th gear we made the same times as the stock turbo which prove us that those turbos are well made in conjunction with electronics. In 3rd gear you’ll have to be vigilant with the power: 3.2sec, hide! I’m in the place! But it’s for acceleration time where the FVD’s strike: 4.7sec from 80km/h to 150km/h (note Jiaim: 49 m/h to 93m/h), which is 2/10th of second better than the stock turbo in over boost mode, and 7.6sec from 100 to 200 km/h (note jiaim: 60 to 120 m/h), 8/10th of second better than overboost, and 1.2 seconds better than normal mod. You could think at first it’s not too good for 140hp more. But at this level, every 10th of second has its importance. The times are very close to carrera gt’s. You would remember with emotion of chronos under 7sec done sometimes ago for the 100-200 km/h benchmark, but when we did those times, it was with very light cars, or with very close ratio gearbox or with bad re-acceleration times. On a modern Porsche, it’s better to be good all the way under the curve, and the FVD is all good.
And , with the bigger turbos, this 997 screams above 200km/h !, I was one at 220 km/h in 5th gear and pushed hard, the power was phenomenal !I’m sure that if we had done chronos of 200-250 km/h (note Jiaim : 120-150m/h) the gap with the stock model would have been even bigger !
More than the chronos, the sensations delivered behind the wheel are astonishing. I drove on Alsace’s departmental road (note Jiaim: some ****ty bumping roads we have in France, Alsace is one of the French departments at the border with Germany) and enjoying all the benefits of this tuning. We find all the pleasures of the 997 turbo, but better.
With 25mm dropping springs (note Jiaim:1.0”) and a reinforced clutch, our testing model made it very well. Very good ride in city, comfortable all across the power band, she gets all the advantages of a modern tuning, where nothing is sacrificed for another. Accelerations are marvellous, re-acceleration are the same, and without revolutionizing the 997 turbo, this very cost friendly preparation let you overboosting all the sensation you feel with the stock model which are already not boring.
For the passengers, their brain will it the inside of their head at each acceleration! And that’s worth any little money effort J.
Owner’s word
Daniel Gentner passion’s is very communicative! This 997 turbo is his 5th Porsche, he started with a 924 turbo, and previously owned a x50 996 turbo before he bought this one at Strasbourg K67 Porsche in November 2006.
“The 997 performs already better than the 996 turbo, I was very satisfied! But I was interested by an engine tune up, I tried one in a well known tuner by I wasn’t convinced. Roland Sommer, K67’s boss who is a friend contacted me this winter saying me that FVD searched a car for test mule of a new preparation, at first it was 550 hp but finished at 620hp. Without hesitation I said ok, and dropped them the car. Once I get it back I immediately felt the better accelerations.”
Enthusiastic, Daniel never hesitates to take friends for a ride, he took driving school lessons too” I took lessons with Charles Rupp because I made some driving mistakes I’m better now but the track is a secondary utilisation, I prefer road ! Driving pleasure is extraordinary and, the most surprising, my fuel consumption remained the same. FVD covered me with a 2 years warranty so all is good! But I’m never satisfied, I want more power. That’s why I’m looking forward to the 997 gt2. I’m thinking of buying one so my 997 turbo will be for sale.”
More is never enough, you said it right?
So we let you the phone number of Daniel if you want to buy his car …
we really apprecciate your translation.
