I think that you should remove the foglight bulbs. They do burn 15 degrees hotter than the stock bulbs and there's no telling what the extra heat could do to your foglight housing. I removed mine. It's just not worth risking things for something that looks better.

BTW, all "xenon" matched bulbs will burn hotter than stock.

I believe that gradyex decided against going with the springs. He's sticking with the stock springs.

Not offhand but I didn't want to be the first. It probably wouldn't have happened right away for me because I rarely use the foglights. I would hate to hear about you being the first to burn out your housing. I had no idea that the parking lights would melt my housing until it had already happened. I'm not willing to use any aftermarket bulbs anymore.

This is my good side guys (I kept it as is). To answer your question, if you know how to remove your front bumper you can replace it yourself. If you have never done it take it in. The procedure itself is not hard but I would use a helping hand during the removal process and installing process to line it up properly. There is a wire attached to the lens about 6in that has a clip on it. You must remove the front bumper to get to that clip. You cannot remove the wire feeding power to the amber LED signal cluster. Its meant to be fixed and not tampared with...............hence no choice but to remove the front bumper to install it properly. I am not referring to replacing the BULBS on the end of the lens. Thats very simple to do, its the second wire going to the LEDs thats the problem.

SG, I replaced all my bulbs back to stock except the the Fogs and the rear license plate bulbs. I have been using it extensively (every time I drive) and checking it each time. No issues yet. I agree with Atomic though, it is risky and results may vary.

I also installed the fogs with out taking the bumper off. Took me less than an hour to do both.

Chris after the fiasco with the bulbs i decided to keep the car stock. I have a band new box of H&R springs if anyone is interested. I did have the car aligned (again) and its much better now at speed.

How long have you kept the bulbs in there and do you use the light often? It doesn't happen right away but over time. For me, there will be ZERO aftermarket bulbs of these types going in my car. Not after this fiasco.

The fogs, highs, license plate and side marker bulbs can all easily and safely be replaced with aftermarket bulbs of OEM power.

The city lights and in the case of the turbo, LED light bar thing, are not safe to mess around with, the housings are too small and any coated bulb will run hot and warp items even at the same wattage. Even low beam on non HID Porsche cars should not be replaced with high power bulbs, most of the housing is plastic and does not take kindly to the constant high heat with frequent use.

Even stock bulbs run hotter than you think, open the trunk and let the light sit a few minutes, now touch the cover with your hand - its hot! And thats just a 10w bulb. Same goes for the overhead lighting, let that run a bit and touch it, hot to the touch also!

reviving an old thread here...(hey, at least i used the search function didn't i?)

i'm looking for bright white side indicator bulbs to go in my clear side markers. i know it's illegal, but i like the aesthetics and the cops haven't given me any sh*t yet and i've had the clears in a year...but i don't like how they look dimmer and give off a different, less intense color than the xenon headlights. i'm assuming they're incandescent or whatever. do you guys know of any HID/LED/xenon replacement side marker bulbs to match the headlights?

and no, i'm not interested in the hoen's that look clear but glow orange. i want good-old-fashioned-illegal white!

get a pair of OEM 997 turbo city lights, they are whiter than normal W5W. DO NOT go superwhite W5W as they run very hot.

my dealer said those OEM 997 turbo city lights wouldn't fit my 996 side markers. he said my best bet would be the OEM cheyenne blue-tinted bulb which will fit (~$9/ea). he has them in stock so we'll see how they turn out later tonight.
