Price for New Key

When I bought my car it only came with one key. Any ideas on how much an additional key costs. I was told the cars usually come with 2 keys plus a valet key. Is this true?

Your right . . . (2) 'remote' keys and (1) valet key.

The keys will be fairly reasonable. Check w/ Jeff @ Sunset Porsche. The cutting of it and the 'programming' will cost more than the actual key itself. I had to do the very same thing on a Boxster about 18 months. If I recall the cutting was $20 and the 'programming' was $100. A total rip off.

The valet key is a different story since it doesn't require 'programming', just cutting.

If you bought the car new, make the dealer provide the requisite keys.

I paid nearly $400 for a new head to an existing key and one additonal brand new key. This was for my 996TT. I have never heard of anybody getting one for under $250.

Key and head were 300, programming was 70- but they did the remote for "free."
