Is it possible to use a wired fm modulator on the PCM? I know everyone is gonna say use dension etc but i could care less about controling the ipod through the headunit. I just want better sound than they crappy transmitter i have but don't want to spend a lot as i'd rather use that money for more important mods.

You could use an FM transmitter .. but the quality would still be subpar. If you want something that sounds good; you would need to get the dension or something similar.

you can do a wired FM modulator, will just be as good as FM... you will need 2 euro antennas, a metra 40-EU30 will do
