Yah, maybe just bad pic of the C4, but the Seal Grey with GT3 bumper is very nice looking.

Thanks B7S4 and Piper!

A few mods that really changed the look and sound of the 05 C2!

I swapped out the stock front bumper cover with a new OEM GT3 front cover purchased from Suncoast. The cover is a straight forward bolt-on kit that gives the car an aggressive look with a little extra down force up front. The GT3 bumper cover is a quality piece and will need to be painted as it comes from the factory primed and ready for paint.

As for the exhaust, I felt the stock lacked a little in the sound department so I bolted on a new PSE system that I found on Ebay. It sounded so well I opted to not install the "sound cutout" wiring kit so it was always loud.

For a little extra "RED bling" in the wheel area, I installed a set of Boxster/Cayman "S" brake calipers also from Suncoast. These utilize the stock existing rotors.

All three of these mods are straight forward bolt-on installation requiring no specialized tools.

Good luck everyone with your Modifications!

I am curious about the PSE. I only complaint about my 997 S is its to quiet... it needs a little throat.... but i don't really want to spend 5K just for sound. I always want more HP but with everything I have read an exhaust does very little for the 997. I am really more interested in sound just for myself. What is you opinion on this?

Hey cszx10r,

I agree with you that the stock exhaust is just to quiet! There are some beautiful systems on the market and some are very expensive. By adding just an exhaust won't add much HP without headers and improved cats. So with that said, the PSE is a very good choice. The fitment is perfect and straight forward. The sound is much improved with a deeper throatier grawl and with no drone in the cabin. I always smile when I drive through a tunnel because the sound is intoxicating. I believe the flow of the PSE is less restrictive than the stock unit because of the true second bypass outlet but Porsche has not stated that it adds HP and I have not seen a dyno printout to prove either way. I tend to mod my vehicles using OEM, quality and well designed parts. Porsche does have a few good engineers and the PSE is a quality system and there will be no problems with warranty issues later on.
Good luck!!!

Thank 08.

So what would I need just to get some nice sound? Just the PSE? Is that the mufflers and cats only?

What kind of price could I expect? Hardware and installation?

DId you install yourself?

I really want some sound. I have hit the rev limiter on several occasions because I have trouble hearing it. I will admit I almost always have the top down and the stero cranked.
I don't know about you, but I am awe with the Bose sound system as I am the sublime handleing.

Still needs many more ponies to rival the sheer rush of the ninja.

Hi cszx10R,
I am using the PSE alone with no cats or headers. The sound is very good! I have read where others are using a combo of headers and/or cats with their PSE to get the sound even louder.

Sound is very subjective. Ask 10 different members on this forum and you may get 10 different answers to what system sounds the best. If you do a topic search on this forum you will find that people will say one system is to loud and others will say it is just not loud enough.

Start a forum asking for members in your area to possibly see/hear their system in person to make your most informed decision!

I did the install myself in my garage with standard tools. Lifting the rear and supporting the car at the proper jacking points and removing the rear wheels will certainly help but not necessary. Backing up on car ramps will also work.

The removal of the stock system and replacing with the PSE system can be done in just a couple of hours. That is the easy part! The hard part is the wiring and plumbing to make the vacuum valves operate. I did not install the plumbing and wiring (many don't) as it is not necessary for the exhaust to perform properly. The wiring and plumbing are used to close the bypass valves to quiet the system. Porsche designed the car (997) to default closed (quiet) at start-up and a switch on the console in used to open the valves (loud mode). Porsche also designed the system to close the valves (quiet) between certain RPMs for noise issues in other countries. You don't need to install the wiring/plumbing for the PSE system to sound good!

I found an individual selling a new PSE system on Ebay for just over 1k with shipping. So deals are out there.

I hope that helps and good luck!

The valves in the exhaust to which you refer function for two purposes only, and are used by many including Ferrari, Maserati, etc.

First, they keep cold exhaust gasses w/in the muffler to be sufficiently heated to ensure many of the emissions are burned until the system fully warms, and they help to quiet the system under 2,500 RPM's.

They have no other purpose.

Most Ferrari people will either wire the valves open or disconnect the vacuum lines to ensure the valves stay open all the time.

Gcalo is correct that many cars have these valves and they function different purposes.

The PSE valve operation is slightly different than how Gcalo mentioned for Porsche. With a push of a button the driver can activate the valves to open (loud mode) right at start-up or simply left closed which is the default. Also the "cut-out" actually happen somewhere between 30-45 mph (presumably to comply with some Euro noise regulations). So what that means is that, from 0-30mph, the PSE sounds great, then from 30-45 it sounds like a non-PSE exhaust, and then from 45-177mph it sounds great again.

Hey cszx10R,
Just install the exhaust and leave the wiring/plumbing out for the great sound all the time.

Thanks rah79!

I was real pleased on how well my 05 came out with the mods. The GT3 bumper cover really makes a huge difference in appearance. As much as I loved the 05 C2, I could not be more pleased with my new C4S!

I sold the C2 to the dealer as they offered a very fair price and were good to me with the purchase of my new ride.

That picture of my C4S was taken with my phone on a rainy day and does not do the car justice. I will take better pictures soon and will share with all!

My AWD car feels more "planted" and less susceptible to tracking the grooves in our highways like my 05 C2 did. With everything, there are small compromises. It really comes down to what are you going to do with the car. I probably will never seriously track the car and if I did I would have considered a GT3 with few amenities. So, what this car does well is exactly what I was looking for in a vehicle! My 2 cents for what it's worth!
+1!

Beautiful car! I like the floor of your garage too!
