If, as you say, you don't fear death and enjoy "indulging" then consider taking up solo high-risk hobbies (base jumping / sky diving for example) to get it out of your system. At least then you won't be breaking the law or risk taking others out with you.

Sorry about the lecture - it's just that I've read too many articles and seen too many videos on car forums about street racers that feel they are in control when something goes wrong and some uninvolved young mother in a mini-van or father on his way home from work ends up in the hospital or morgue. Just a few years ago there was a fellow M3 guy that lost control in the canyons and one or more in the car died and the remainder ended up terribly burned when the car blew up. Things happen...
Actually I am a PCA member and have been to a few events. The region I'm apart of is big on racing events. Yeah I agree on you about the racetrack. I waiting for the next DE class.

Basejumpin and skydiving is just isn't my thing. I would say my judgement is pretty good. I don't take certain risks.

Just to reinforce the point that RonCT makes, this happened yesterday in AZ:
http://www.azfamily.com/news/local/s....5ec5cd47.html

The Mercedes board member walked away, a 76 year old man didn't.
The MB guy was a drag strip veteran who like almost all of us ... knows better.
70+ in a 45 zone, just a few moments of stupidity.

Wow, that really puts it in perspective... sorry to hear about all of those effected! This will change many lives unfortunately.

My biggest issue is not me being out of control but the other idiots around me who tend to act macho when they see a Porsche (or other high end sports car probably). Not only is tailgating dangerous but it puts me at risk as well if I have to stop suddenly. Then there are the jerks who get pissed that I won't play with them and try to start something by driving erratically or cutting me off.... Makes me wish I had a portable spike strip with me I could throw out the window!

Go on a site like www.cherokeesrt8.com

These guys spend all day wacking at how they destroy M5's, Porsches, Z06, etc. all day long. Since I used to have one of those pieces of crap (for 5 weeks (it only ran for 2 of those)) I belonged to the board for a short while.

One guy was talking about how he destroyed a 997 Carrera S by about 20 car lenths. I told him that the guy was probably not racing him just trying to get away from him after he boasted about tailgating him to try and make him race. He, and everyone else, got all defensive about how much faster their trucks are than just about any Porsche.

So I told them that how I usually handle idiots like that is let them get next to me, nail the gas for about 1 second, back off let them speed away and go home and tell all their loser buddies that they destroyed another Porsche.

It actually works quite well. Once they think they beat you they usually go away.

Thats probably not a bad idea Rob. I won't tolerate someone tailgating me. My brother used to say 'there will be 1 car length per 10 mph between me and the car behind me if I have to stop to make it so'. When I was a young and dumb I would probably stop and get out. I am 6'5 and about 230 lbs. With all the crazies in SoCal thats really not a great idea. My thinking now is maybe pick up the cell phone and let them see you dial 911. There's always the old biker trick of holding up a large ball bearing between your fingers for a couple of seconds and then dropping it on them (I don't advocate this!) I had a friend with an old Fiat convertable who if you got too close behind him he would look straight up in the air and hack a big looger in your windshield.

A guy in an Eclipse challenged Thursday with his gf, I ignored him for about 5 miles on the highway, then he got bored and exited. I don't bother wasting the gas.

i've had guys run next to me on the freeway and match my speed to try to goad me into a race. usually, if no one is behind me, I give a hard stab of the brakes and they shoot off into the distance. usually, they get the point and move on -- i had one guy where I had to do 4 brake stabs before he left me alone -- and then he gave me the finger.

oh yes and I had a guy in a mustang with a woman and child in the car beg me to drag race him on the streets of san jose

my biggest fear, the possibility of seriously injuring someone notwithstanding, is that someone gets on a cellphone to CHP and says I just saw a bunch two guys racing -- guess who CHP will find more easily....

Isn't there a $1000 surcharge on all tickets issued in VA to VA residents? Hardly worth the risk to prove to someone what you both already know. Personally, I love having Toyota Siennas try to race me from lights. There's a certain satisfaction is accelerating slow as can be while they blaze off knowing that I don't respect them enough to bother dusting them.

Yes there is....there was a petition out a few months ago which I signed. Its not fair that only the VA residents get with the charge.

Stret racing is extremely lame.

I know that the few times I have pulled up beside a ferrari or lambo at a stoplight and I am not in my 911, I role down my window and pull away from the light briskly just so I can hear their engine as they get on it a little. Maybe some of these minivan guys just want to live vicariously through us and hear that fine tuned engine in our Porsches.

If that is true all they have to do is roll down that window and ask that I take off. I can appreciate a admirer.
