Audi R8
I like them a lot...problem is that by the time you get them specked they are 997 TT money.
I can understand why you would like to make the switch it is nice to have somehting new. Porsche has become a little over exposed by the sucess they are having these days so they are no where near as exclusive a purchase as they used to be.
I wouldnt pay a premium for it though. If the markets are really getting as bad as people say that premium will disapper very quickly as demand softens. This could hit through into second hand sales although as you have a car to sell already probably not such an advantage to you.

I am 2nd in line at Rosen (my local dealer) for the V10 model when it arrives sometime next year. I am not trading my 997S cab for it though, it will just be an add on car. I was impressed with the R8 and I am sure the V10 will be quite a machine.
well, i have a 997GT3, and have driven the R8, really no c0mparison, even with the 997, handles great, it just doesnt have the feel, spirit, sound of the 997, no as fun to drive, and looks like a spaceship....
Erm...how is that even possible? Who did you speak with at your dealer?
Lets look at it this way:
You buy a R8, your one of the few who has one.
You keep the 997, and you are just like every other trust fund baby, hedge fund manager, CFO, enterpenuer, major investor, CEO, President, politician, and lottery winner.
Which (with the potential exception of politician and trust fund baby) leaves you among so very good company.
So: rarity or good company? Thats the choice as I see it. And you only live once, so.... maybe buy both.
Note about the V10 or V12: if the diesel version is real, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Sure it cannot carry golf bags but if you own a super-car like that, you should already have a Grand Tourer to go play golf in anyway. The extra 400lbs is a little concerning though, even with 80 more horses and the oodles of torque...

Not sure why someone would not think it is not possible. I gave them a 1K deposit and they gave me a buyers order and the # 2 spot. This is the way it works with limited production cars. I spoke to the owners son, though I am very well know at the dealership. And yes the V10 version is coming, though probably not until mid 09
That was my favorite commercial. I am not sure why I've seen other threads comparing it to a Carrera (S or not). To me it's out of that league and closer to the turbo. I think there is a 30k premium.
Are they going to continue to produce these? If so, I would not advise buying the first production year of anything since there hasn't been real world testing to get the kinks out. Your Porsche has 50+ years of refinement behind it. Save your money (at least for now). If the novelty hasn't worn off in a year, then buy it.
Here is a perfect reason why not to buy a first year production model of anything.

Hey buddy! Until I get this next release for my product done and out the door, no weekday drives for me! Where are you guys coordinating when and where you go? I haven't been out in forever!
I am in Alpharetta and would like to join as well.
Might give Doug a chance to tell me to STFU, face to face,
As per the Audi: I like it. But I think it'll age like the NSX. Still awesome looking, still a great performer, but never a 911.

I don't know what it is, but I REALLY like the under-light LED's in the front. And the exhaust is to die for.
