When buying long distance, any things one should know?
I don't see the point of traveling out there. I know the car is spec'd right. I know the car is on the boat. This is different than a car sitting on a dealer lot even for a month. The car is still factory fresh and will be taken off to be dealt with by the mechanic and detailer, that's it.
The sales manager even offered to drive it to the detailer instead of the detailer's usual runner, knowing that I was concerned about a disinterested party stretching out the engine.
Honestly having it driven back is more likely to do damage than being on a flatbed truck.
jhbrennan, maybe I can take you up on part of your offer and have you check the car out once it's been detailed, just the exterior and interior mainly to see that everything looks perfect. The sales manager also offered to send high rez pics once the car has been finished the detailing.

Ok let's say that you simply can't make it . Will you take delivery of the car or will someone else take it when it arrives? They can't just leave it at your residence but what i don't understand is why a salesperson can't go with the tow truck.
Chances are that a reputable Porsche dealership would fax you the window sticker with the VIn and specs and things will be ok . I would not feel uncomfortable with adealership whom I have had many positive experiences with because a business relationship is built on trust .
One thing though --if you ordered a car with "sport seats " I do think you owe it to yourself to sit in them to see for yourself . They are excellent seats but they are not the same as the standard seats .
When you spoke of the red car I did look at it on the website of the dealership you mentioned . They had photos and it looked nice. Since you have taken interest in meteor and sport seats and specify a distance I think I may have found your car and have afeeling that you probably got a good deal . Of course I am just speculating .
I have placed a bit of thought into replying to your posts and would hope that the day you get your car you are happy with it and satisfied with the price . It's kinda been fun even for me because I find a new car purchase a fun thing and hope yours goes well so taht you can enjoy this phenominal machine .
If this is your first Porsche , it can be a very special thing. I never forgot mine.

Frustrating dilemma - you have a job that allows you the luxury of buying a new Porsche, but doesn't allow you the time to enjoy it. Kind of like marrying a beautiful woman, and not having time for the wedding night.
On a serious note, can you pick it up on a Saturday? Trust us all, the first drive home is not an experience to be missed. 50 years from now, you'll have zero recollection of the work issue that kept you tied up, but you'll still remember (or regret not taking) that first drive home.

Normally I would be much more hesitant but the car afterall is still on the boat and everyone in the handling chain from time it arrives to the time it is loaded will be instructed that the car is going to a picky owner and any thought of abusing it should be stricken from the mind.
He also offered to personally drive it to be detailed.
If I get it over here in a covered truck I think ice eliminated most of the problems that I possibly could have.
Sure there could be a dud and have weird mechanical flaws off the boat that only a test drive could detect. That is slight risk, but I doubt that.
I probably could benefit by having a 6speeder or a rennlister check it out up close.
I think this is the car. Finally.
Thanks for your posts. It will be my first porsche.

I think things are going to work out ok for you with the absentee test drive .
I speculate that you will not think too clearly at work that day and want to run out and drive the car .
It is something to remember .
Good Luck . I do like Meteor a lot more than red too .
I bought my first P car and my wife's MB C350 4Matic from dealers 60-70 miles away in another state. As part of the deal I required them to deliver the car since they couldn't give me 20 day plates, an inspeciton sticker or a state title application . With the P car I was trading an S2000 so the salesman drove up with the Box-S and back with the S2K. With my wife's the salesman drove the MB up followed by a chase car. Remember, they will do anything to make the sale. Just make sure they bring the car to you in the daylight and take plenty of time to inspect it inside and out. If there is anything wrong, make the salesman acknowledge it and make sure you iron out an agreement right there that the dealership will correct it to your satisfaction and have that amended to your bill of sale. Make the salesman sign your copy and initial the amendment.
This is your first Porsche. Don't get caught up in looking at the whole car in admiration. Look at each individual section with a critical eye. You will have plenty of time to admire it later.
Good luck.
What da ya know. Just broke my cherry. My first post!

This was a very nice and sincere offer that another poster made . If the car was in South Florida I would feel inclined to do so yet I would hesitate for one reason --I can't decide for someone else .
Even if a close friend asked me I would feel that if there was something I overlooked or that he found unsatisfactory I would feel so terribly .
Picking the car is a very personal thing . It's just one of those things that
is really up to the two parties --buyer and seller .
As you can see -I give opinions on price and such but when it comes right to to the specfic car --it's really in the hands of the one who buys it to make that final decision.
