Extended warranty pricing...please read

The standard 4 yr/50k mile warranty on my 997 is going to expire Sept 2009 and I am thinking it is probably worthwhile to get an extended warranty on the car as opposed to keeping it with no warranty (or I may just end up getting into a different car now). The one big thing I am looking into that may decide whether I keep the 997 is how much an extended warranty will cost. Is it best to get this through Porsche (this is what I am thinking...would they have to certify the car?) or an "aftermarket" warranty? I have not had any issues at all with the 997...no oil leaks, car runs like a champ. But I have just heard so many horror stories about problems on various Porsche cars, from the engine seals, engine failures, blah blah blah. Hope I can get some good input on this ASAP as I have a deal in the works on another car that would suit the upcoming married life much better, but that is an entire different convo. Hope to get some feedback!

I paid 1600 to extend my 2007 S warranty to 6 years 100000 miles with Porsche North America. BTW when getting married , get the wife a car that can hold 5 poeple, then you can keep living the P dream.

This must be new from PNA, when I went to extend my warranty on my 06 S they didn't offer it. I got mine through a dealer from API for about $2K, with a money back if I don't use it.

Was this when you purchased your car or did you buy it after?

Purchased later with about 10K on car, from another dealer, after much shopping around.. My dealer didn't offer any at time of new purchase, March 06.
Prices are negotiable, best if mileage is 10K or less.

Well I have 20k on the 997. Is it best to purchase an extended warranty now or can I wait before the warranty is about to expire?

Did you buy this at the time of purchase, or was this after you drove the car for a while?

My local dealer - Porsche North Scottsdale will not certify the car. They will only sell me a warranty through the dealership with no deductible. My 997 is a 05 with 20K miles. The price is $4100 and will add 3 years 36000 miles. The price makes no difference what the miles are or how long I have until the warranty expires.

I have a year before the factory warranty expires.

I know this is a tough question to answer, but should one expect a lot of problems to arise from the 997 as it ages?

By not use, you mean not activate it before the factory warranty expires, or not make any claims on it after the factory warranty is up? The latter doesn't sense, or else how do they make any money?

I just bought the car from a dealer, it had 2400 mile son the car. they put it in the PCO program at tiome of my purchase for 1600 bucks. see below.link http://www.porsche.com/usa/pre-owned-vehicles/approved/

On the issue of ageing problems. The porsches are seen by the sports car community as the most robust vehicle on the market. You are well served by almost any age of porsche.. there are exceptions of course, but not often.

If it's not used by the expiration date, there is a refund of your money, minus a small fee. They have your money for the term of the policy!
This means use after the Factory warranty is up, and it takes over.

I still don't know if you can get an extended warranty from PNA on a NEW car, only used I thought.

I called my local dealer and it seems they will not certify the car even though the warranty is not over. I thought any car could be certified prior to the warranty expiring.
