I just had a buddy that went through this process. He bought a 997TT and sold it 2 months later. From there he went to a Gallardo which lasted 3 months. Last week he showed up in a new C4S. The C4S is his favorite. At the end of the day he is a Porsche guy over a Lambo guy and prefers NA over FI.

I think the FI versus NA is the bigger question.

Having come so close to owning two TTs, and having taken a short yet thrilling ride in Yrallis1's TT (pre-700bhp...hey Larry its Ray), the bug has bitten me and the TT venom is quickly flowing through my vains. I am in love with the TT, however I'm also very interested in the generation II 997S. It seems obvious to go with the TT, but I just cant help but contemplate the upgrades of the new 997. I'm not interested in the gadgetry so much as I am with the rear LEDs and front facia of the car. For some reason I keep getting stuck in this decision...I will continue reading the forum and hopefully (soon) I will be able to come to a decision.
This is too funny !!! The "neighbor" which originally led to my post was after I talked to your dad about YOUR car . I saw him the other day when I went jogging .

As you see the results on this thread are kinda mixed but leaning towards the Turbo.

But ..... Since this is your car (lol) all i can say is time is on your side .
The cosmetics are nice on the new car (front fascia looks much like the 997tt) but the level of sophistication the 997tt car can be brought to in the aftermarket exceeds what can be done for the 997S due to its Turbos having that much power to unleash .

You saw how my car was before the EVT700 but now this jump brought it to an entirely new league .

It is fun to split hairs on this thread because in the end you wil only select one of the two. No matter what choice you end up with - you can't lose . Both are fantasic cars .

I concurr- I love the sound of the C2S engine - I test drove the 996 Turbo and while much faster somehow was not as stimulating...OK I am now ducking

I have not driven the 997 Turbo- but I gotta think that '09 997S is better than mine and that is plenty good....

Cheers-

Regarding the normally aspirated topic -- I'll address it. A stock 997tt has this luxury power car feel. It's quiet , rides comfy , but press that pedal in third and it's bye bye to most other cars .

Modify the turbo and its an entirely new beast . With my current setup EVOMs 700 Hp whatever lag the stock turbo had is no longer there. In fact the combination of these mods mated to their software without lag is almost indescribable . It's beyond Popeye eating spinach ...
I can't say enough about how happy I am with this choice

I have owned two normally aspirated 997S cars (1 stock, 1modded) -great cars too .

I suppose ultimately the decision comes down to what the driver wants from the car and in my case I wanted a platform to design a world class Hp supercar with enough creature comfort to make city driving just as blissful as when it roars.

The best part as well as the hardest part is having all the choices and picking the one which meets those driving needs.

Small world! Yes, I was speaking with my father the other day about my current and not so bad of a dilema. He had mentioned that he spoke with you. Its a tough decision, however I have decided to take a drive to Champion and take a spin in a stock TT. Although I have driven one before, it was a very short test drive (approx 5 mins or so). I'm not expecting to go "***** to the wall" in it, but I'd like to spend a little more time behind the wheel. The TT is an intoxicating car, just looking at it makes me grin like a child. Not to mention, the more posts I read the more I would want to mod the car. Anyway, hopefully I will have a clearer picture as to where I stand with this situation. I would also like to thank everyone for their inputs...keep em' comin!

Used 997TT for me. Although the improvements of the 09 are great (stronger crank case and engine, better technology, pdk, touchscreen nav, etc.), the benefits of getting the facelift aren't great enough to pass up the power and modding potential of the turbo

Love my NA engine noise...a turbo stand and start next to me yesterday on a stop light, i can't even hear his noise...
355hp is more than enough for me now, because I need to learn to master them... and this is already enough on the street....
Yes turbo is nice.... but 355 is enough for me...
just like i got a king size mattress already (best), and why would I want one 2 times bigger? I can't even use half of it. ( in terms of I only have 1 woman in my bed)

This is the best post I've read so far.

Everyone knows the turbo is faster. No need to discuss this.

I fully agree that 355hp is really enough, as least for most people. I can't even push 10/10 on my car on the track, giving me more hp will cause me to crash sooner...

If I'm to upgrade my 997S one day, it will most likely be a GT3 before a turbo.

If 355 is enough then why are so many looking forward to the 385 or even modifying the 355 with all the thousands of dollars worth aftermarket things discussed on this forum ?
Even Porsche is ready to add the 30 Hp to the car . And why not ?

I don't even think 480 is enough . I went higher . 600 looked good and Ray went for a dtive with me and saw how good .

Yet there was more room to grow and at 700 with nearly no lag the car will not only smoke a 997S and a Gt3 on straight line performance but with a tuned suspension would split hairs witha gt3 even on the track .see for yourself http://videos.streetfire.net/video/H...GT3_162632.htm

Yet the Turbo is even comfortable enough to drive slow and hear music at 55. To do that a person would not even need 355 .

Maybe 355 is ok for you . But not me .

Lastly -- If he buys a Turbo he could get a used car which alreay absorbed some depreciation as opposed to paying top dollar for a new 997S at its launch . Hp was the criteria which led to my conclusion but even if one points to a price/value comparison --He could get a 140K car for 115 as opposed to a 105K car for MSRP at launch .

I still don't feel he loses either way . But he can only select one .

I can definitely see Targa's point. Prior to owning a 997, I owned a stock E46 M3 and I felt that the 333bhp was more than enough. Owning a 997, I've come to appreciate that power even more, now that it comes from the back. However, as Yrralis1 pointed out, I took a drive in his TT with (I think) approx 640/650 bhp and I was completely blown away as to how incredibly fast the car was. Although my experience with the GT3 is limited, I do respect the hell out of it...it is extremely nimble and fast out of corners...I just dont see it as a day to day car for me. What I like about the TT besides the obvious power, is its great looks and comfort. Its reminds me of the my 997 in that respect. It could be civilized in traffic and "jaw droppingly" viscious when I want it to be. I very much respect the TT, and I suppose that my decision lies not only with horsepower but with day to day use. I'm definitely hoping to clear these questions up when I take another test drive this week. Furthermore, I'm hoping to get some more insight to the new 997.

Some said it was quiet . The stock car has a quiet exhaust but that can change very fast . Since he liked white this 997tt was posted in the 997tt forum . I find it amazingly beautiful.

New models get more hp because that's marketing. If you keep the same hp or lower, people will not buy them.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to have a 600 hp turbo too. But at the same time I'll be frustrated to drive this car on a daily basis as I can only use 30 % of the engine during day to day driving.

For track use, high hp is good but not crucial, the ability to perform high speed cornerings is.
